Well, it's true that Corgan does seem to be able to play the guitar but he
does not reach into the pantheon of guitar Gods that I refer and defer to.
He is certainly competent but my vote is for not much beyond that level.
Yes, some of his lyrics are also good but he just spoils it ALL with his
preening personality, one of the things that has appealed to me about the
era of acid-jazz and related forms of music is the largely absent gigantic
egos and posturing that people like Corgan seem to feel they are entitled
to. While I also do not care for the antics of Prince from a personality
perspective, he is without question an enormously talented person who is
both an excellent technician on several instruments and also up there as a
producer and arranger. I can easily understand why he has no significance to
some people (like you) but I do love some of his music. The very least you
can say about Prince is that he puts on a spectacular show and that he has
an impeccable sense of rhythm, something Corgan seems to be only barely in
touch with, without a solid drummer behind him, the bald-headed but scowling
jerk seems rhythmically handicapped. The notion of anyone putting out an
album that seems as calculated as this acid-jazz project of his seems to be,
is complete anathema to me. Personally, I do not think that he is capable of
putting together something really worthwhile himself and he badly needs
these "guests" to beef it up for him.
