Hey kids. I can't believe I never thought to tell y'all how Melissa Auf De Maur got to know Billy Corgan and how she got the gig with Hole.

I don't remember what year it was, but the Pumpkins were a completely unknown band touring for "Gish", which had just come out. Anyway, they played Montreal in a real shithole club called "Foufounes Electriques" It's kinda like our CBGB's, with everyone from Nirvana to the original Bad Brains to GG Allin having played there; real small place. In any case, they were playing on $2.00 Tuesdays (as in the entrance fee), and my buddy and I decided to go take advatage of the $1.00 beer specials. I swear, not more than 15 people were there that nite, and Melissa Auf De Maur was one of them. Back then, she used to be a bassist in a local group and couldn't play to save her life, but her dad was a very well-liked local journalist and noted boozehound, so people knew her as Nick Auf De Maur's daughter. In any case, she was a bit of a groupie back then and was making it pretty obvious that she wanted some of Billy Corgan's man-meat after the show, so after the band came to hang out with all 15 of their fans, she disappeared with him. Not six months later, news comes out that she landed the gig as bassist for Hole, and NO ONE here could believe it; SHE COULD'T PLAY!!!! I wonder how she copped that gig, hmmmm? Absolutely true story, I was there. Ok, that's the last I'm gonna say on the Pumpkins!
