Pick of the Week: Well, since I wasnít able to do the show on September
11, there were two Picks today: O.H. Krill is the project of Max
Brennan, who listeners may know best as Fretless AZM and Universal
Being, the two pseudonyms he creates wicked grooves for the Holistic
label under. On The Krill Papers (Depth Charge) Brennan teams up with
four other Isle of Wight residents (including Depth Charge beat-master
Tom Vernon) to create stunning, cinematic jazz riffs and raffs. Wicked!
The other Pick was the top-notch Select Cuts From Blood and Fire, (Echo
Beach) a killer compilation featuring contemporary dub headz remixing
the sounds of classic innovators such as King Tubby, Yabby You, I Roy,
the Congos and others whose work has been reissued via the Blood & Fire
label over the years. This is an absolutely essential collection for dub
and roots reggae fans ? beyond good.
Guest: I was also lucky enough to speak with Bronx-based producer
Antonio Ocasio, a super nice guy who has been DJíing in NYC and beyond
since the ë70s. A huge fan of David Mancuso and the Loft, and Carlos
Santana, Ocasio is a man who tells it like it is and gives credit where
credit is due. Check his super-sweet, rich, organic dance releases on
labels such as Naked and his own Tribal Winds.

Pick of the Week: The duo of Uwe Walkner and Karl Mostl come through
with Heaven or Hell, a solid second release for the K&D owned G-Stone
label. If youíre a fan of dub-drenched basslines, thick beats, and
melodies that sneak up on ya, check this. Heaven or Hell definitely sees
the duo taking their production in new directions and to new tempos.
