Hi, recently I was asked (or told) by two egroups to unsubscribe
from their list. Apparently, they did not appreciate my little event
listings or guest list info. That's cool. They have their own thing
going on and it was mostly a place for them to share writing and
poetry. I have been a member of several groups (over 30 actually).
About 10 poetry groups, 5 or 6 music news groups, some party info
groups, some Hip Hop chat groups, etc.
I recieve over 350 e-mails a day. About 200 of them are poems or
other writing from groups. Many people are cross posting to all the
poetry groups I'm a member of (10 of them), so I get the same poem 20
times or more, cause they send it to each group, then send it out twice.
I skim through the poems and stories. Some catch my eye and I read
them. Most are garbage, but we are all learning. Some are genuine,
touching, brilliant etc. and I save those I like and delete the rest.
It takes hours to sift through it all, but I don't complain. That is
the price of being on those lists. If you want them to read you, you
have to receive all their stuff too. Cool.
I also get hundreds of party invites or event listings, which is
cool, even though I don't go to most of them I like to be kept
informed. You never know - one day . . .
But I can understand if some people on my list don't want to recieve
my stuff. By all means, reply with "remove". "GMS" does not stand for
Get My Spam. So I'm going to describe what I will be sending one last
time and then if you do not want to be bothered please reply and I'll
take you off my list.
#1 - I book Hip Hop and Spoken Word events in NYC. Then I e-mail
everyone the dates of the shows and all the info.
#2 - I have a regular Hip Hop/Reggae party every Saturday @
LIMELIGHT in NYC. I send out info on how to get on the guest lists, so
not to pay so much $$$ to get in.
#3 - I pass on interesting tidbits of Hip Hop news that is forwarded
to me, like ZULU NATION ANNIVERSARY events or interesting indie film
screenings.
