I saw Jill Scott perform last year at Vynyl in LA last year, on the bill
with King Britt and Jack Herrera. It was an event sponsored by Garth
Trinidad and the KCRW crowd...
I wasn't much impressed, not because she couldn't sing (obviously), but
because her whole backup outfit wasn't doin' much with the songs, and they
all kind of sounded the same. (BTW, I got e-mail grief from the Chocolate
City producer for writing about it on the aj list... you never know who's
lurking out there, y'all).
Anyway the other nite on Letterman. Whooo wow, what an improvement. Plus
she's got her own sense of style now, she's fully divafied it seems, and,
well, she's just on fire! Great album too...
