('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is) >Res (aka Shareese Renee Ballard) is Afro-American (whether she has any Chinese heritage remains to be seen). Some black artists use Chinese imagery ...Wu-Tang Clan for example...Foxy Brown as well (Chinese tattoos and the "Chyna Doll" album title). Doesn't mean they're Chinese.<
Foxy Brown is part Filipino, but we don't see "Pork Gisantes" tattooed on her belly in Old English lettering.

    >The US record industry isn't interested in Chinese people (or any non-white or non-black artists for that matter...and if you're Latino they'll give you a chance but throw you in another category where you still make a lot of sales yet the mainstream never really hears about you) but...that's another topic. :) <

Let's bring it up then. I think most of us go through different means to hear our music, so no matter what the U.S. industry says, I'm going to listen to whom I want, be it Coco Lee, Monday Michiru, Pushim, or Lori Fine. This is why someone like Toshi Kubota is only seen on a fringe show on BET, or why the majority of Americans only heard of Coco Lee when she sang the theme to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Amazing how the industry doesn't care for them as artists, but they don't mind forming "special marketing" departments to make sure that money is obtained through those "special markets".

Don't even start up with me on the Wu, who always mess up their references to kung fu and karate. If you're going to name yourself after a Chinese style of martial arts, you better know the difference between tonkatsu and dim sum.
