Ray is an excellent deejay and is one of the most eclectic, cutting edge
guys around. He's a far cry from a straight house deejay, lame or otherwise.
He's consistently on top of the newest sounds around and has done so for
years. I'm glad he came across well at the Bebel gig as I know he's was
looking forward to that (he's a huge Brazilian music fan, both nu jazz and
traditional samba, etc--his wife's Brazilian too).

As to the main part of the message Rhythmlove isn't going to be able to
afford an in-house promo person, so that leaves K7 and Giant Step. K7 just
parted ways with their old promo guy (who has now started his own company)
so I don't know if they are getting out of doing as much in-house promo or
have their own new person, but I can't imagine they would have split from
Dirk (no relation) if they hadn't worked out a replacement in one form or
another..so I'd say no go at K7. That leaves Giant Step which is very busy
these days. I'd try them. Other than that, you're pretty much out of luck.
Naked is on the West Coast. Actually speaking of Bebel you might try Palm
Pictures (Six Degrees distribution partner) or even Sputnik 7 (Palm
Picture's internet arm). Also Quango has relaunched but I bet they use Palm
Pictures promo people most of the time. And re-reading your note I see you
wrote "lucrative" --well if that's the case you can pretty much scratch
everybody off the list as most promo jobs for small companies like these pay
    crap. :(

    Hey chicos y chicas,

I will soon be looking for a more lucrative position in the label promotions
biz. I've got the how and what somewhat down, so now I'm working on the
where and who of the biz. I love the pomotions co I'm with now but not too
much AJ/Nu-Jazz shiki-shiki comes through here. So I'm looking for other
labels/promo co's, in the NYC area, that might be more suited to my taste.

    more info needed on:
    K7
    rhythemlove
    giant step

    is Naked based in NYC?
What other labels/promo co's do I need to know about?
as always I am humbly and eternally thankful for the collective's help.

    Joni~

PS caught Bebel Gilberto, Ray Valasques @ summerstage last night. Bebel was
enchanting, engaging, exotic, any other e-words you can think of! Also
pleasantly supprised by Ray Valazquez bustin out w/ the brkn bt/ nu-jazz/
shikki's! Perhaps I hastely wrote him off as a lame house dj....I couldn't
    have been more off base...
