I have mixed emotions about this album, which i
bought about a month ago. it seems ambitious and i'm
really impressed with the composing that keys does --
playing both the piano and violin at times. on the
other hand, songwriting suffers a bit, imho. someone
at work said they thought she was the new whitney
houston. me, i think keys' vocal range is kinda
limited. i was hoping for an album that tapped into
the same organic vein as jill scott or badu. but this
is a little poppy for sure. with all that said, there
are some good cuts -- namely, fallin, rock wit you
(which features issac hayes and his orchestra), the
life (which brings in a great caribbean feel).
overall, i think it's one of those half-half discs
that you find yourself flipping around on.
