    Someday, when they finally lay my ass off and I've got the time on my hands,
    I'm going to arrange all my albums by the color of the spine. Currently
    though, they're by genre (spent hours this weekend rearranging, actually, to
    free up floor space and make the bottom shelves more accessible)...

    Basically, I've got a shelf or consecutive shelves for each genre:
    Minimal techno & tech-house (mostly by label - Perlon, Klang, etc.)
    Deep house (no order whatsoever)
    Broken beat (by label, more or less)
    Two-step
    IDM & related (Warp, Skam, Schematic, Musik aus Strom)
    Downtempo & instrumental hip hop
    Vocal hip hop
    Drum'n'bass
    Dub & Reggae
    R*ck (!)
    an array of experimental, ambient, noise, out jazz & 20th century classical
    & electronic
    ...and finally, scattered detritus everywhere, and a growing pile of shit to
    be sold off....

    in short, too many damn records.

    Here's how I break mine down (previously posted to another list or I
    wouldn't have the energy to re-type it!):

    * Sleazy Listening/Orchestral Pop/French-German-Italian Soundtracks

    * Breakbeat/Jungle/Trip-hop/Electronica/House/Techno

    * Stuff that would be in the above category, but which has a live
    rhythm section

    * Hip-hop/Turntablism

    * R&B/Soul/Funk/Disco/New Orleans

    * Afrobeat et al

    * Latin (mainly búgalú, latin soul, hard salsa)

    * Latin Rock

    * Brazilian

    * Ska/Rocksteady/Reggae/Dub/Dancehall

    * Miscellaneous "World"

    * Jazz

    * "Classical" (mainly 20th c)

    * Krautrock/Extendo-Psych (but not Psych-Pop)/Prog

    * Rock (includes psych-pop, punk, country, electro-pop, etc.)
