i likes. side b on buscemi's tres lounge remixes on downsall plastics.
it starts of house 4/4 beat-like and then the vibe kinda changes as the keys
come in. definitely when the gentle voice comes in: "face down to the
ground, who's laughing now" so even with the sambaesque beats, it has a sort
of downtempo FEEL to it for me. it's danceable though, the tempo is not
slow.
the second song on side b is an remix of lais: dorothea. it's definitely
bossa downtempo. very pretty.
now side a is a remix of calexico's "crystal frontier". that one i don't
like very much. housy beat, mexican influenced brass and acoustic guitar.

now regarding duplaix's "manhood"--is there anyone who does not like that
track? i first heard it the first time gilles played it on his show. for a
second i thought "god that sounds like some guy did this track on just his
dinky keyboard." seconds later i was hooked! i was living in london at the
time and i called a friend in the states and said "listen to this!!"
when i came back to the states and played it for my roomates they laughed!
pshaw!
kelis i saw when she was getting big in the uk. glastonbury 2000. up to that
point i thought the 2 songs i heard were ok. the show was very energetic but
that's all it was--energy. she was so off key that it annoyed the hell outta
me. your show can have fireworks and dancing teddy bears a-la aphex twin at
roseland but it's gotta sound good!
(got pics of that btw)
speaking of annoying singers--the singer on that llorca track (nicole graham
is it?). too much vibrato. that just ruins people's voices for me. maybe i
could tolerate the freeform five remix if it doesn't have so much of her
voice in it-?
