I received this press release and I want to forward it along to all of you. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Billy Higgins, but let me just say that he is truly a jazz legend and a great human being. Some of the best shows that I have been to, have featured Billy behind the drums. Check out the drum credits on the back of you jazz records to see what I mean.

    For Immediate Release

    Billy Higgins Update

As many of you may be aware legendary drummer Billy Higgins is very sick and in need of a liver transplant.

We have been in communication with Billy and he wants everyone to know that his spirit is strong and that he is grateful for all the support, prayers and donations that he has received.

However, he is not out of danger and has been unable to work since the end of October. This has not only been very hard on his music loving spirit, but also his ability to meet his financial obligations. So we are appealing to you to help him during this most difficult time. He needs to raise $25,000 as soon as Possible, and $10,000 immediately to lift his mortgage situation out of imminent danger.

Here is the address where gifts may be sent:

Please remember the Jazz Foundation of America's Musicians' Emergency Fund. For all the great older players who never had health insurance or got to save any money because they were never paid properly to begin with. The Jazz Foundation helps them with medical care, financial assistance and even gets them opportunities to work, as you can call the Jazz Foundation of America to book bands for your events or office parties. Call Wendy Oxenhorn, the new executive director, at 212-245-5800. You can also listen to our Jazz Line each week listing some out of the ordinary great spots for music at (212) 479-7888. Thank you so much.
