Cuki chart, playlists and other trivial news!
    01.07.01 Week 24

    Red wine in Vienna,
    Salmiakkikossu in Helsinki,
    Champagne in Brussels!
Ouch, Cuki getting a drink problem we think!
Well if Sofie says, Cuki does!
    Sofie was 'ouch'!

Massive thanks to Samy Birnbach aka DJ Morpheus
and his wonderful Viennese wife Truly for their fabulous
hospitality last week. I'm loving the Viennese girlie ting!
Cuki only ate the best food, drank the finest coffee, hung
out with the nicest peeps! Cappuccino's in Passiflore's,
Strawberry tarts outta Teddy L's. The richest expresso
ever in some Italian joint in the old town! Tasty morsels
at Le Hasard des Ghoses. The food was pretty good
    there too! Ouch!
Cuki gonna get a weight problem to go along with the
alcohol one! No wonder I'm leaving for the continent.
Food and drink in London is so boring after this!
Starbucks and Macdonalds suck! No contest!
Well, DJ Morpheus having just finished up his famous
compilation. Look out for the 'Seven Is, Seven Is' The
next instalment of 'Freezone'. One of the most respected
compilations ever! 'Freezone' will never be 'just another
compilation', and the headz know that! Look out too for the
Bebel Gilberto remix project. A few instalments of this
already floating about on a twelve. Get ready for the Zuco
103 live thing. Apparently very, very good. Snooze with
awesome 'hush hush' remix pressure soon come!
Crammed coming wit da goodies for the summer and fall.
Love to other Crammed/SSR/Ziriguiboom members, Mark,
Thierry and the gorgeous Sandra (She was 'ouch' too!)
Thanks to Carlos who runs the Pablo Disco bar on the
Rue Marche au Charbon 60. A small and intimate venue
that has just recently just been voted best bar/club in
Brussels. A well deserved award, a fun place with an
excellent attitude and vibe! You'll know Carlos as you
enter the bar! He has an energy and smile that is
infectious. 'Not sure what was in those small glasses
you gave me Carlos! Something with lime!'
Much love too to Sofie. Sofie not only having a VO2
max of 55, she was also without doubt number one
'ouch' in Brussels! Now I know why Carlos has this
permanent smile on his face ;) By the way Sofie, Cuki
    @77.2 mls/kg/min VO2 and LT at 83% of his VO2.
MHR=199, RHR=34 Well, that was before the cakes
    and alcohol!
Other crews hanging around the Pablo Disco bar
this weekend. Yvan from the Food booking agency.
David from R&S records and Mo from the Eskimo crew.
Love to Ugo too. Get ready for his DJ/live thing at the
Marcus Mingus jazz club on the 6th of July in this
wonderful city. Check the list below Ugo for what went
off last Thursday. To David Xander for his kind words!
Some CD's on there way to you very soon sir. Nicolas,
the minidisc king! Some minidisc's on their way to you
sir! Amir and the others whose leaving party I went to.
Too many names to remember here! Love finally to
Alexia and Mariana, more 'ouch's' in these past days.
See, Cuki got other interests! It's not all music and
    coffee on this page!

Happy Birthday to James. One of the good guys!
Happy Birthday to Natalie. One of the good girls!

Shouts to the Tomstar, Lars and Mats in town this
weekend. We checking their wonderful city next week.
To Jim Kerr outta Brighton. Great tale my friend! Just
    how it is.

Big bundles of records in my post box today! Cuki only
owning one pair of ears! I will get back to all concerned.
Many thanks though. Once again, so many great
records about to hit the streets! It would be easy for me
to list a top ten and spend more time away from this
keyboard! Sorry guys, gotta tell you about these tunes!

'Boots' is copyrighted to RJK! It can only be used with
the expressed written consent of RJK. How many
newsletters this week did I see with 'Boots' being
mentioned! Our lawyers are watching! Chill ya boots boyz!

Sophistication! I know all about sophistication! I've been to
    'Mouseorgan' on a Saturday night!

    #### #### This weeks chart (* New Entry) #### ####

    1. New Sector Movements - Download This (Virgin) 3xLP
The vinyl album arrives! All the music IG has ever listened
to comes through on this extraordinary piece of work. Album
of the year already. 12 tracks, stunning, breathtaking, Nothing
you have ever heard before sounds like this. Hold tight for
early July release. Till then, get all the remixes on the 3x12"
Dwele, Kenny Dope and IG's own remix. Outtasight!

    2*. Osunalde - Paradigm (Soul Jazz) 2xLP
This years hottest house producer getting 8 delicious tracks
down for London's very own 'Soul Jazz' posse! Excellent
album, and those who have been diggin the 'Yoruba' imprint
    know the score already.

    3*. Afronaught - Shapin Fluid (Apollo) 3xLP
Time to put the 'hush hush' CD away cause we got the 11
tracks on vinyl! We've even seen the finished art work and
Orin's looking real dandy as he travels to through space with
his 3000! Containing the awesome 'Transcend me' so you
know what to expect! 21st century music.

4*. Bayaka - Irradiation (Flower) CD
Japanese kings of ambient sonics come with a mind boggler
of a long player. Beautiful selection of acoustic music. Deep,
sensual and very spiritual. Real instruments, tight arrangements,
proper songs and a touch of Japanese quirkiness throw in for
good measure! Is this the music that Nik and Aki do it to?

    5. Kaidi Tatham - Betcha (Landslide remix)(Bitasweet) CD-R
Kaidi gets the two step maestro remix treatment! Tim Land
aka the Landslide, adding his touch to a west London anthem.
Two blinding rubs, lets hope both make the final twelve.

    6. Mr Hermano - Free as the Sun (Disorient) CD-R & 12"
Gonna be in the box for months this beauty! Ben Mitchell
and Chris Fleming roll on the summer with Nik Weston's
hottest Latin Gospel tip! The album living up to all that has
been heard on the new single. Excellent.

    7. Bilal - Love Poems (Interscope) CD-R
My favourite track from the forthcoming Bilal album outta
Philadelphia. Album now scheduled for July release! Not
bad since it was supposed to be in the stores in January
then March. Bilal as you know featured on the Common
    album. A big talent.

8*. Trouble Man - The Essence/The Messenger (Far Out) 12"
'Trouble Man' a new disguise for Mark Pritchard. 'The
Essence one of the favourite tracks from a previous Freezone
compilation is coupled with a brand new track for Uncle Joes
'Far Out' label. Funky bizniz always with MP.

9*. Gerarda Frisina - Ad Lib (Schema) 2xLP
What is going on at Schema? As my good friend Speedy is
bangin' on about! Some worthwhile moments to check out on
this album. Touching moments like when you heard what
Speedy's real name is! Personally I think Speedy has shares
in Schema! Did anybody notice how many tracks/artists he
charted! Luv ya boots and luv ya charts Mr Servini.

    10*. The Underwolves - 'Mixes' (Compost) 12"
Exciting twelve this, as you get the Fauna Flash 'Timbalas'
mix of 'Shaken' and Switzerland's finest, 'Earthbound' take
on a mid tempo twist of 'Bird Song'. And that's the B-side!
A-side containing 'In the picture' which featured on the last
'Off-Centre' compilation. A new vocal rub on this too.

11*. Fragmentorchestra - EP Section One (Schema) 12"
Speedy was right! It's all gone off at Ishtars joint! Left, right
and centre, Schema ten's, twelve's and albums fall from
the sky's onto my 1200's. One bonkeroony bossa biz
followed by a couple of 'chill ya boots' selections! Man,
you gonna need to chill them too after the A-Side! I had it
pitched down to minus 6 and I still got blisters!

12*. David Axelrod - David Axelrod (Mo Wax) 1xLP
The Axe returns! You know the story! One of the true
heavyweights of club and especially hip hop culture returns
with a long over due album! Some old unearthed diamonds
along with some new and still original sounding compositions.
Excellent sleeve notes from the Shadow too. Many thanks to
Joanne at BB for the vinyl. It gets one of those outta plastic
    sleeves already!

    13*. Kanoe - V/T (Lifeline) CD-R
Not much info on this though a couple of choice tracks well
worth investigating. Soon come outta Japan we think so
    Nippon Nik getting all damp!

    14. Three Generations Walking - Slavery Days (Spiritual Life) 12"
SL offer a awesome slice of dub club! Deeper and more
spiritual than anything else about at the mo! Cello's and
violins adding to the haunting narration. Then comes in the
percussion! Oh my god. Nik still not on the bus with this on!

    15. Block 16 - Morning Sun (Nuphonic) 2xLP &12"
New Block 16 album and twelve in the box! Jon Lucien, Jhelisa,
Bim Sherman, Robert Owens all adding their sound to a quality
album. The twelve (Find an Oasis) having some dope remixes
from the Rollercone and Fug crews!

    16. Wagon Cooking - Mare (Appetisers) 12"
Number two on this new label! Certainly wetting the appetite!
Super tight production on this groovy little twelve. Do try and
locate the first twelve too! Big tune for Pat Forge and Rainer
    Truby.

    17. Cleveland Watkiss - It's only Sweat (Touchdown) CD
Slighty above average album but whooooo what a killa
track in 'It's only sweat'. Cleveland roughing it up like the
good ol' days with Outside and Project 23!

    18. Nepa Allstars - V/T (Surplus) 12"
New label on the Nu jazz tip! Attica Blues boys bringing
this to ya! As always with this crew, futuristic but soulful.
Do check out the excellent 'Blueprint Sessions' at Plastic
People EC2 each and every Friday night.

    19. Nathan Haines - Wonderful things (Chilli Funk) 12"
Third twelve from the amazing 'Sound travels' album and the
A side containing that track along with a new rub! We really into
the B side with an instrumental version of Wonderful things!
Spiritual stuff from Nathan as always.

    20. Truby Trio - High Jazz (K7) 12"
This we think lifted from the forthcoming DJ Kicks series for
the 'on it' K7 label. Rainer and the guys deliver the exclusive
track from their forthcoming musical journey. A slight diversion
from the more percussive trips on Compost. This extremely
    soulful excursion from the boys.

    21. Dapp - First Off (Dub Version)(Omoa) CD-R
Ta to the Recloose for putting this my way. Taken from
excellent sampler doing the rounds with hot new Detroit bizniz!
Hold tight for the sound of Matt's new project along with quality
music from Marc Alphonse and Ayro. Check the website on
    www.omoamusic.com for the lowdown.

    22. Nitin Sawhney - Sunset (mixes)(V2) 2x12"
Probably one of the first to get the CD-R's of these mixes but
one of the last to receive the promo vinyl! Well, finally got one
and the London Elektricity and KV5 mixes still shake my boots!
MJ Cole and J-Walk adding to the remix package!

    23. Still Phil - Bey Un Bey (MKL vs Soy Sos mix)(Natural Resource) 12"
One of my favourite remix crews, the MKL vs Soy Sos get to
grips with this track. The deep cellist mix so off the wall. Real
lefty house music! We getting into the Kiko mix too with its
    sensuous guitars and tings.

    24. Bazille Noir - Mister M (Klein) 12"
Part 4 of the 'Sincerely Yours' series. Ta the crew on
Gumpendorfer Street for thrusting this sweet swinging
soundtrack groove in my hands. Think Mancini,
Morricone, Quincy, Lalo hanging out in the Flex club!
Hold tight for an excellent long player from the boys!
    It's all hush hush!

    25. Lucy Pearl - Without You (Dwele remix)(Virgin) 12"
That man Dwele back with a warm and soothing remix
featuring another Detriot star in the making, Mr Phat Kat.
As always with the Dwelogy, spaced out Rhodes and
    keys adding to the trip.

    26. Tony Allen vs Cinematic Orchestra - Brotherhood (mixes)(Comet) CD-R
The Allenko Brotherhood Ensemble! Manu got his finger
on the pulse regarding getting the right remix for the right
job. Hold tight for the 'percussive' & 'piano' mixes of new
ABE outing soon come. Swinscoe and crew back on
    the block!

    27. Cosmic Village - Mixt Generation (For Life) CD
New long player from Japan with 6 original compositions and
4 remixes from the Jazztronik, Recloose, Flytronix and Mustang
crews. Tight production and arrangements as ever with this
    classy Japanese crew.

    28. Espen Horne - Nhu begin'n (Hospital) 12"
What a steal! Those nice peeps at the red door have
decided to include a exclusive track to their 'Out
Patients' sampler. As far as I'm aware, not to be
included on the new album so grab this when and
where you can. Anybody who caught the show in
London will know about this track.

    29. V/A - Out Patients Vol 2 (Hospital) 3xLP
Hospital records come with mo goodies in the new instalment
of Out Patients. All new and exclusive and featuring the cream
of today's top production teams. Jazztronik, Swell Session, Les
Gammas, Landslide etc. Even the 'Future Homosapiens'
(remember them) make a long over due visit to our ears!
11 tracks and all pushing the right buttons! Me pick up the vinyl
this week Ems, keep one back for me!

    30. V/A - Le Nouveau du Jazz (Irma) 2xLP
We checking this for two tasty exclusives from two tasty
producers! Dem being the 'Recloose' and the 'Domu'
As always, Matt and Dominic taking it to the edge of the
envelope. Pushing even more boundaries and taking
21st music by the scruff of its neck! Album also
containing remix pressure past from Ian O'Brien and
the Volcov for Soul Drummers and Space Clique.

    #### #### Coffee Compliment #### ####

    Bobby Hutcherson - Now
    Blue Note BST 84333 (197?)
My favourite 'Hutch' album, not sure of the year!
Anybody wanna help da Cuki with that! A truly
inspirational album. Very sparse, deep, dark
and moody! Bringing out the best in this coffee!
My favourite moment, a tune and the title track 'Now'
dedicated to Albert Stinson who was a bassist to
Hutch for a few outings! He died very young of a
drug related illness. Hutch letting his feelings come
through on the song. Other tracks as spiritual as it
gets! 'Slow Change' where Harold Land never blew
as well anywhere else. 'The Creators' just a massive
deep journey into unknown's! 'Hello to the wind' a
beautiful folk/jazz trip with Gene McDaniels on vocals.
Duke Pearson on production, Joe Chambers on drums,
Kenny Barron and Stanley Cowell on keys, Candido on
Conga's. Wally Richardson on guitar, Herbie Lewis on
bass. The whole damn album one of my favourite and
    precious musical journeys.
