             [sisterdjs] hardware heads up

all you in the market for midi hardware, soundcards
and soundcards w/midi ports listen up!
in the next year midi2 will be released. it's a big
deal because it's completely changing the midi
protocol. there will no longer be midi in, out and
    thru.
the recent development of firewire ( uses the braided
cable w/clear plastic coating and a USB
port plug) is doubling the capabilities of all digital
audio, video and midi. with the old midi
specifications, only 16 channels could be used. now
    hundreds of channels make anything
possible. unlike midi cables that only allow data to
be streamed in one direction, firewire allows it
in both directions, eliminating the confusion caused
by complex midi setups. in addition, all wires
are sheilded, so you dont have to pay extra for
sheilded wires (unsheilded midi cables can pick up
outside frequencies that can add interesting news
broadcasts and such to your beauitiful jungle
    track.)
the speed is increadible: USB can only process 12 MB
per second... FireWire goes at 400 MB per
second- blowing everything out of the water.
also, firewire will allow "hot swaps" (pluging or
unpluging devices without haveing to reboot) you
can plug in a device and the icon will appear on your
desktop. saves much time and hassle
the most significant reason you ladies should not make
any hardware purchases until this is
released is because all new machines coming out will
only have the firewire ports- no more midi
interfaces. of course old machines will still have
their uses (if you want the particular sound from
old mooge machines, you will still have to record it
from that machine) but in the next few years
machines with midi in, out and thru ports will be
    looked upon as antiques.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, dont buy that new korg, and stop
drooling over that $600 sound card
with midi ports. in 6-12 months they will be obsolete.
save your money and buy a FireWire bus.
