Crate Soul Brothers newsletter #70: The message in a rough stylee

    Newsflash 30.10.2001

    Dear friends,

Last week was usual for me here in Budapest (I am really sorry to miss Martin Morales
from London spinning the best of electronic world music at Home Bp. last Saturday), so
I rather post you Shuriken's second report from the London underworld (he always tries
to complain how hard his life in London is but from this report it seems that life is
24-7 pardey for my missed friend). :)

"I feel just as tired as the Coffee Shop in the squat house on the other side of the
street where I live that burned out during the last weekend. I spent two great night
last weekend at Herbal, a small but friendly club on the East End of London. On Friday
(19th) I witnessed the first Hospitality night (the event of Hospital Records), a more
than promising start for the series. With djs the like of Alan Brown aka Cukipapa,
Andreas (the Swell session guy), Landslide, you just can't go wrong. And this is just
the alternative pair of decks upstairs! The main floor was rocked by Hospital style
d'n'b beats (London Electricity & co). Made a lot of new friends and met quite a few
of the "old" ones. A good night to shake your booty at.

I also danced like an idiot on Saturday (20) at the Mouseorgan clubnight to the 4/4
beats of Ross Allen. Not a big straight house man myself I was fired up by the old
school hip hop and party funk slams of the dj upstairs (Whose name just escapes me for
the moment. Shame on me!), but got dragged close the subwoofa on the main floor when
RA got into the house part of his eclectic set. Dom Servini (Wah Wah) had his giant
pants above the dex to bless the night with its magical power. They also sell these
tight girl titty top sized t-shirts with either a mouse or an organ, and these are
true fetish - creating buzz about the Mousorgan nights - in their own right,
especially after putting the girly-tit-bit in it. My girlie's already got one!!!
    Blimey!

Also thanx 2 DJ Vadim for rocking the crowd at Goldsmiths College with his friends and
for exchanging some words with me despite the deafening sound system. As they did a
bit of political rapping on George W. Bush, who is now playing the chief police
officer of the world, I thought it's a good idea to quote KRS - One's classic as the
reading of this week. Just to give you an idea.

    "Verse Two:

    Now here's a likkle truth
    Open up your eye
While you're checking out the boom-bap, check the exercise
Take the word "overseer," like a sample
Repeat it very quickly in a crew for example
    Overseer
    Overseer
    Overseer
    Overseer
    Officer, Officer, Officer, Officer!
    Yeah, officer from overseer
    You need a little clarity?
    Check the similarity!
The overseer rode around the plantation
The officer is off patroling all the nation
The overseer could stop you what you're doing
The officer will pull you over just when he's pursuing
The overseer had the right to get ill
And if you fought back, the overseer had the right to kill
The officer has the right to arrest
And if you fight back they put a hole in your chest!
    (Woop!) They both ride horses
After 400 years, I've _got_ no choices!
The police them have a little gun
So when I'm on the streets, I walk around with a bigger one
(Woop-woop!) I hear it all day
Just so they can run the light and be upon their way

    Chorus

    Woop-woop!
That's the sound of da police!
    Woop-woop!
That's the sound of the beast!

    Verse Three:
Check out the message in a rough stylee
The real criminals are the C-O-P
    {...}"

    KRS-One - Sound of Da Police (http://www.rbaworld.com/cgi-bin/viewlyric.cgi?3575)"

Check out the message till next time!
