I have posted this elsewhere on the internet.

First of all I just wanted to check in here with yall to let you know that I was ok.
As some of you here knew, till pretty recently I worked every day in NYC in the area where the devestation occured.
I was walking around in those buildings ond riding under them in subway trains as recently as last week
The day of the attack however I was about 50 miles away in NJ...

(in other words, I could have easily been among the 30,000 + people who were vaporized)

Second of all, it is my overall impression after reading some of the posts here that a few folks out there have no concept whatsoever of what happened last tuesday.

    Just for a little context:
52,000 Americans died in the Vietnam War
    50,000 Americans died in Korea
30,000 + Americans died in NYC on Tuesday

As far as I'm concerned anyone who supports (or attempts to rationalize under the cloak of "third world peoples" movements) this kind of murder needs to be vaporized...
....just like the 30,000 + people who were vaporized in NYC last Tuesday!
    _____

What has happened is much more than a "national emergency"
It also happens to be quite personal to more than a few of us , including myself.

The office that I worked out of for nearly 10 years is one of the buildings in the backround that you keep seeing whenever they show a shot on TV of where the World Trade Center used to be.
    It's currently on fire...
That red bridge they keep showing laying on the street was how I used to get from my office to the bus/subway twice/day for 10 years.
In fact I was just there for a meeting last week

The whole mess that is unraveling in front of us on TV is actually quite sickening to me on a soley personal level.
No doubt of the 15,000 - 30,000 "casualties" they are now talking about some of those people are co-workers, friends, aquaintances, etc
Fortunatly to my knowledge none of my family members have perrished as a result of the attack and I am certainly greatful for that.

Worst of all is a sickening feeling as a person who grew up in NYC that MY HOMETOWN, which is resilent to ANYTHING, the GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD is NEVER EVER going to be quite the same place EVER AGAIN.

(and if my city is going to change forever, does that mean that I am going to change forever?)

My brother Mike also has a strong connection to that area.
He worked for many years in what is now called the Verizon building
Back then it was simply known as the "NY Telephone Company Building"

During the same period of time that I worked in the area, so did he and many times we would hook up for lunch in a luncheonette, hot dog stand or some other place that is now burried under TONS of twisted metal and concrete.

"Downtown" is one of the most unique and diverse places in a city that is chock full of "unique and diverse places".
It's an area where people who are billionaires eat lunch everyday, at the same hot dog stands as homeless people.

It's an area where two of the very best record stores (J&R Music World & Bondy's) in the United States are located.

Yes it's true that this is a neighborhood that exists mostly as the center of world finance.
But it is also a neighborhood that represents a microcosm of the city itself.
It is a neighborhood that in many ways is a barometer for the health of the city

    Now it's been devistated
I am mad about that and so are a lotta other people

In fact I wrote an essay called "MUSIC IN MY MIND" about walking thru that neighborhood one day to the beat of some James Brown that appears on the Soul-Patrol Website at the following link...

    <a href=" http://www.soul-patrol.com/funk/mind.htm ">AOL LINK: MUSIC IN MY MIND<a>

Anyhow I have rambled for long enough here for now....
