try Laurie Anderson "The Ugly One with the Jewels and other stories"

well, it`s ambience around spoken word mainly, rather than soul... the voice is really nice, though

I have been looking through my collection, and it seems that the evolution
of my musical preference leads to downtempo. Unfortunately nothing I own is
downtempo "enough" for me. I have so much of it, yet none of it seems to hit
the spot anymore. I think this leads me to ambient, a genre where beats
don't apply, and slow/chill is a must. Does anyone have any recommendations
for ambient that has soul in it. I need to be feeling like I'm swimming
through a vacous liquid in slow motion, with a soulful womans voice guiding
me. The closest I have come to experiencing anything like this is Alpha's
Come From Heaven. Although Howie B's Music For Babies is great, I need
    vocals. Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks
    Jeremy
