I am quite proud to say that none of the music I spin comes from
compilations. Every cd I carry with me to shows is either the artist's full
length CD or a single, that was released at the same time as the 12".
Sometimes the artist's full-length happens to BE a comp, but it usually will
have more songs on it (and they usually AREN'T just filler songs, contrary
to popular belief). I'm not a big fan of America's single-driven music
    industry.
That's another great thing about CD's; one CD will have around 15-20 songs
on it, as opposed to 10 or so for DOUBLE vinyl...and sometimes the CD will
have exclusive tracks. So, when I spin, I am carrying with me (on average)
around 7500-8000 songs. That gives me more than enough room to play
differently styled shows, in addition to being able to showcase different
songs from the same artist. It's something that simply can't be done with
vinyl...unless you happen to have roadies to carry 50 record boxes around
with you. I am also able to play longer shows with no problems, and when
you add in hot cue sampling and cutting loops on my CD turntables, I have
even more options. Yes, vinyl is romantic, and I still buy lots of
records...I'm just real tentative about bringing them to clubs. If
something happened to my five volumes of DJ Food's "Jazzbrakes", I'd die.
