yes, glastonbury is definitely worth it. i went in 2000 and had a great
time. found cheap tickets in the paper (was too chicken to ride all the way
there and jump the fence like tons of people did) and a guy through the
festival website that gave me a ride in his vw camper van through. riding
    past stonehenge was too cool!
some of the acts i saw were femi kuti, horace andy, gilles p, people under
the stairs, brand new heavies, dj krush, moloko, morcheeba, etc.
but there's so much more to the festival than music it's wonderful!(see
below for website and update info)

also went to the notting hill carnival that year. it was insane! amazing
parades, good food, tons of sound systems. an amazing and unique experience
but definitely not for the weak of heart and fearful of crowds.

and edinburgh, scotland july through sept has some great festivals: fringe,
jazz and blues, film, etc. i was there for all three and saw some great
street performances, music, and films and got to speak with their directors
(ie, girlfight) before they were released. i didn't catch too much of the
music as i was off to isle of skye and loch ness and the mountains but the
acts seemed pretty cool. but beware, accommodation is rough during the
festivals although sleeping in a 10 person co-ed hostel room with 5
different languages and 3 am snoring can be an unforgettable experience
trust me! so go early on in the festivals.

oh! and in the summer time london has tons of free music events in the south
    bank area, hackney, etc.
    hope that helps someone!

    update on glastonbury:
At 11pm this evening, Thursday 27th January, The Regulatory Board of
Mendip District Council took the step of approving the applciation for a
provisional public entertainments licence for the Glastonbury Festival
2002 to take place from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th June 2002.

Everyone should be aware that entry without a ticket can no longer occur
at the glastonbury festival. This is a very strict condition of the
decision to approve the licence. If this can be complied with at the 2002
festival then the future of the festival will be secured for many years to
come. Michael Eavis was prosecuted for the number of people attending
without a ticket at the 2000 festival. There are more details about this
    on the official website at
    http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk
