Okay – first newsletter of the year. It’s been a while – anybody miss it
(probably not…) I have now got the Real Audio to stream (thanks to DJ Midi)
and I will also be putting a web page version up at
    www.inspiritmusic.com/artists/?page=9
    <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/artists/?page=9> - for those who can’t
receive HTML email. I would also appreciate your feedback on the look and
    feel of the email etc.

You can now buy a small but excellent selection of 2-step / broken beats on
    the Inspirit site - http://www.inspiritmusic.com/shop/?page=1

It’s certainly been both a busy and exciting start to the year. Firstly a
big shout out to all the great peeps I managed to meet up with amongst all
the stiffs and suits in Cannes at Midem this year – Tom @ freerange, the
guys @ Glasgow Underground, Tony, Scott and Sean @ Satellite, Matthias from
Sonar Kollektiv, Paul @ Fenetik, Adam @ Greyhound and the nice guy from
Cannes’ premier record shop Limelight (whose name escapes me), and anyone
    else I might have forgotten.

Plenty of stuff from these guys in the chart this week. 2002 should be a
great year for music – especially from Inspirit Music. Music on Inspirit
    forthcoming from:

    Andy Caldwell (Naked Music)
    Kaskade (Om Records)
    Sequel (Zest, Straight Ahead)
    Landslide (Hospital)

    The Beard

    Iris (Chicago)
    Soul Sista

And much more. Watch this space!!! You’ll hear it here first…

    ---

    1. Amma – On My Own (Landslide mix) – Inspirit Music (sorry no audio yet – strictly CD-r) Oh my gosh!!! Landslide touches down on Inspirit with one of his finest remixes to date (second only to the ‘Betcha’ reworkings). Tim Land goes deep fusing Amma’s super sultry vocals with some sublime 2-step grooves. No release date as yet…

    2. Jazzanova – That Night / Days To Come – JCR <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/jazzanova.mp3> Finally… it was back in Easter 2001 when I managed to catch this on the radio… “haven’t felt the same since that evening”… the minidisc has been permanently glued in the player ever since. I’m sure you’ve all heard it – that night, night, night, night! Watch out for the album due to drop soon called ‘In Between’.

    3. Agent K – Ladies (Maddslinky mix) – Laws Of Motion <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/agentk.ram> Dave Jones a.k.a Maddslinky / Phuturistix / Zed Bias does it yet again. Beautiful arrangements, skippy 2-step beats and just enough naughtiness underneath. It doesn’t get much better than this.

    4. Yukihiro Fukitomi – Playback – Forma <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/yukihiro.ram> Two superb vocals from both Lianne Carroll and Carolyn Harding make this jazzy beats affair difficult to resist. Track it down.

    5. The Rurals – Various – Peng / Quiet Riot <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/rurals.ram> There’s been so much worthy output from west-coast (UK!) based Rurals. Lush vocals, deep house grooves and spatterings of live instrumentation. My current favourite is actually the Harvey & Muscle remix of ‘Make Ammends’.

    6. Various – Sound Of Music Vol 2. – Fenetik <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/tejada.ram> I think this has been out for a while now but it was the two deep-tecchy 2-step grooves from Anthony Teasdale and John Tejada that made in a definite in this fortnight’s chart. Plus there’s the usual downtempo beats and grooves from the likes of Daniel Ibbotson, Jimpster and Pablo.

    7. Jersey Street – After The Rain – Glasgow Underground <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/jersey.ram> Diverse LP chock full of Glasgow’s Underground finest music since Jersey Street’s very own “Step Into The Light”. Though a tad sickly sweet in places, the album travels through a nice range of tempos, moods influences with enough ease to make this a definite for the CD changer. Due to drop March I believe…

    8. Various – All Our Eggs In One Basket – Freerange <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/loveys.ram> Out this week I think – check yet another superb compilation to hit the shelves recently. Plenty of deep house / jazzy beats / “insert genre name”! from the excellent Freerange label. Tracks from Jimpster, Shur-I-kan, Landslide and Swell Session amongst others. Also keep your eyes peeled for the awesome forthcoming 12” from Trevor Loveys.

    9. Henri Salvador – Readymade (Koop mix) – Source <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/koop.ram> Kick back, relax and smoke another jazz cigarette! Koop delivering yet again.

    10. Alistair Colling – Broke / Susi Groovy – Switch <http://www.inspiritmusic.com/sounds/charts/alistair.ram> Missed this first time round but if you’re into your electro-tinged broken beat grooves Alistair Colling is yet another name to watch out for. And rumour has it he’s from Newcastle!? Not that there’s anything wrong with Newcastle…

    Best of the rest…

Attaboy – New World (Ian Pooley mixes) – Toko

    Fragile State – ? - Quiet Riot

The Beard Presents Soul Sista – Only You – Inspirit Music
