Hi there. Its Matthew K from Interactive in Glasgow, Scotland here. Been
incredibly busy (as usual) at Firebird in Glasgow's West End with my usual
Tuesday night residency. Forthcoming dates include the Pyrotechics nights at
Club Alaska and the Bacardi Tent at the T in the Park Festival in
association with the Sub Club on Sun 14th July between 12 - 3pm.
Following my tribute to Nuphonic records last week, I have since found out
that they were only one of many labels who have been fighting off bankrupsy
for a while. I'm not going to name names here, but its quite obvious this is
a tough time for the independants we respect just now. Sales are down, media
interest is down and production costs are way up therefore resulting in a
very difficult situation. Lets hope things can turn round soon as these
people aren't in it to make loads of money, there in it for the love of
music. Keep supporting the independants. Anyway, until next week.......

    Matthew K DJ Chart 20th June 2002

    1. Koop: In A Heartbeat - Gerd Remix (CDr)
What a remix! The fab Terry Callier track from the Koop album was always
going to get the remix treatment and this result is awesome adding an even
jazzier feel to it. Unfortunately not due out for a while yet.

    2. Amplified Orchestra / D & B: Silver Lining EP (4 Lux)
Brand new label associated with Gerd with an exceptional debut release. The
man himself remixes two of the tracks here with 'The Prophecy' being a
delightful dreamy breakbeat house number. Classy package.

    3. Telepopmusik meets Banzai Republic: Breathe - X hale remix (CDr)
Thanks to Jesper in Denmark for this amazing remix of Telepopmuzik. Not sure
if this will ever get an official release but it so deserves to, reworking
the original into more chilled terittories but still retaining the
    dancefloor feel. SUPERB.

    4. Peace Orchestra: Reset (K7)
Triple vinyl package of remixes from the utterly amazing Kruder album of
last year. All the big names are here - Gotan Project, Beanfield, Truby
Trio, etc. with jazz fusion coming to the fore. However its the downtempo
remixes by Zero DB and Chateau Flight that are getting the most plays from
    me.

    5. Da Lata: Golden (Palm Pictures)
Promo only 12 from forthcoming remix album, it features 2 killer mixes. Bugz
in The Attic continue to blow us away with their offbeat re-interpretation
while Patlife builds up the beats while never needing to go into a full on
drum'n'bass track. The album should be a winner.

    6. Rednose Distrikt: Hoor's EP (Hum Hum)
The follow up to potentially the best track of the year is here and it
doesn't dissapoint. More mid to down tempo groovers with a distinctly funk
influence, expect this to be a grower.

    7. Arkestra One: S/T (Cosmic Sounds London)
A delightful jazzy chill out album featuring the heavenly vocals of Smoke
City's Nina Miranda. Opening track 'Into The Light' sounds like Portishead
    meeting with Pharoah Sanders!!!

    8. Amma: On My Own - Landslide & Spectre Remixes (Inspirit Recordings)
One of the finest purveyers of lush 2 step. Both mixes here are a delight
with the Spectre one narrowly coming out on top. Watch out for Inspirit
Recordings, they are on the cutting edge right now.

    9. Doctor L: Let Me Out EP (Comet)
Got a tasty little package from the Comet crew the other day (thanks guys)
and it included this gem. I'm going for 'Baby Its All Right' with its
gorgeous flute drifting over the offbeats. LUSH.

    10. Tom & Joyce: Tom & Joyce (Yellow / Climate)
The Brazillian sound is just growing stronger and stronger just now and this
is further proof of its high quality. Their debut album after all the
compilation appearances and remixes, this is the sound of the summer
    dancefloors.

    11. Chari Chari: Across The Universe - Frankie Valentine Remix (Ultima)
Check this out. One of Japan's finest get the remix from Frankie Valentine
on a new 12" out of Portugal. Spiritual dancefloor grooves with percussion
that not even Clausell could match. Very special indeed.

    12. Sonar Lodge: Interior Backgrounds (Music For Speakers)
What a label this is. Wacked out jazz for the modern age. If Miles was
around today he would be hooking up with these guys.

    13. Chari Chari: Flow Dub (Ultima)
Here's the full length CD only album from which the Valentine mix came from.
The Japanese crew get reworkings from the likes of Frederic Galliano, DJ
Pogo and Volker Meitz. 8 tracks on offer, every one is a winner.

    14. Sven Van Hees: What Do You See? (Life Enhancing Audio)
First vinyl outing from Van Hees new album, but has a great bonus track on
    the flip unavaliable elsewhere.

    15. Tali: Lyric On My Lip (Full Cycle)
Tali is a genius female MC hailing from New Zealand. Linking up with Roni
Size results in a blinding slice of drum'n'bass.

    16. Jazzanova: That Night - Remixes (JCR)
I always knew the remixes were going to be stunning, but this is outrageous.
Wah-Chu-Ku aka Tony from Attica Blues drops an epic 80's tinged remix of
monumental proportions while Victer Duplaix does a wonderous job on the
    flip. Truly awesome.

    17. Benny III, Kode 9 & Culprit: Fat Larry's Skank (Tempa)
The Tempa label blow us away with an amazing Indian style 2 step monster
with an eerie flute drifting over the top of this dancefloor killer. Watch
out for Kode 9 - a name for the future and be sure to check out the
forthcoming Tempa compilation - the perfect starting place for all those yet
    to hear their delights.

    18. Les Gammas: Outra Vida - Remixes (Compost)
Featuring the vocal talents of Smoke City's Nina Miranda, its another
Brazilian style gem. I'm going for the DJ Patlife remix where the drum 'n'
bass producer scores his best ever remix.

    19. The Electones: Summercloud (Inertia)
Other than the Hefner remix album, things have been very quiet at Inertia
for a long time. They're back though with a new outfit and a truly superb 3
track 12" with all the usual Inertia style jazziness.

    20. Organ Language: Volume 2 (Revirth)
Japan's Calm continues his Organ Language series with more Detroit style
grooves. For those who can't track down these Japanese release, the CD
compilation is due out over here in the next few weeks.

    21. Gotan Project: Triptico - Remix (Ya Basta!)
Now on vinyl, Peter Kruder does a superb job of transforming the Gotan
Project classic into a dancefloor winner while retaining all the elements of
    the original.

    22. Rhythmix: Reluque Batuque (Far Out)
Remix album time and with the likes of 4 Hero, Masters At work, Da Lata,
Zero DB and Bing Bang on offer, it makes for a quality package.

    23. Nu Tropic: Mental Appetizer (Comet)
Another killer release. This time its classy jazzy house of the finest
quality. This will work the floor a treat.

    24. Maddslinky & JT: The Fog (Stealth People)
While I wait for the Maddslinky album on Laws of Motion, this tasty 12 of
the best 2 step sounds will keep me going. Not sure how long this has been
about for but this is the second great release on Steath People. Check them
    out.

    25. Adam K: Feel It - Madslinky Mix (Gush Collective)
As well as running an ace label, Inspirit also are an amazing record shop.
Thanks to those guys I can now track down all these 2 step delights. Here's
    another one.

    26. System 7 / Derrick May: Mysterious Traveller (A-Wave)
A blast from the past and an amazing surprise. This is the album Derrick May
has been promising for nearly 15 years now. OK, its under the System 7 name
but thankfully only a couple of tracks have the Hillage new age sound, the
rest is pure Detroit techno of the highest quality.

    27. Deep Dive Corp: Beware Of Fake Gurus (Jubilee)
Following the 12" the other week, Jubilee spoil us by dropping a full length
album by Deep Dive Corp. Outrageous production and glorious tunes, this is
the finest in downtempo and chilled house grooves.

    28. Various: Suburban Soul (L5 Recordings)
Another Japanese release this time featuring 3 exclusive new tracks from the
far east and a rare gem from Off World aka Kirk Degiorgio. Very impressive.

    29. Chris Bowden: Slightly Askew (Ninja Tunes)
The spirit of Sun Ra lives on with this astounding new album from Chris
Bowden. A true musician at work, this is a fully fledged jazz album with 4
tracks of stunning music over 2 slices of vinyl. STUNNING.

    30. Various: Metrosound Sampler (Metrosound)
Straight to the Tikiman exclusive 'The Sound' for a slice of classic dubbed
out grooves. Also check the Thomas Fehlmann track - nice.

    31. Agent K: Feed The Cat (Laws Of Motion)
Kaidi Tatham is really starting to come through as the main man of the
moment. This album is future music of the highest degree and is as good as
the Modaji and Domu long players.

    32. Moonstar: Dupont Remixes (Compost)
Straight to the Nu Era remix of 'Workin Men's Hustle' where Marc Mack of 4
Hero drops a wonderous Detroit influences broken beat killer. A truly
amazing track from an all round excellent EP.

    33. A Bossa Electrica: Tombo in 7/4 (Raw Fusion)
Yet more Swedish wonders from this exceptional new label thats getting big
props from Cukipapa. Latin style but with a very modern twist, the title
track on this 3 track EP is the old classic that instantly brings a smile to
    your face. WICKED.

    34. Nicole Conte presents Rosalia De Souza: Mariab Moita (Schema)
Nik Weston is sure on the case just now and this is yet another beauty he
has sent me. All three tracks are incredibly funky Brazilian groovers with
the 'Canto De Ossanha' track being the current favourite in the package.

    35. Nude: Digitise (Shelflife)
Another release from the Ammunition crew (also home to the likes of Tempa),
this dubby 2 step release looks to the Detroit originators for an inspiring
release. With Zed Bias now on Sirkus and his collaborations with Kaidi
Tathan for Laws Of Motion, watch the 2 step and broken beat scenes hit off
each other for some stunning music.

    36. Lava: Vem Para Ficar (Audiopharm)
Well done for Audiopharm for picking up this Japanese delight. Straight to
the Moodorama remix for a stripped back, lush groover. LOVE THIS.

    37. Stereotyp: My Sound (G Stone)
Cheers to Cukipapa for sending me this. After the delights of his 12's,
Stereotyp drops 11 tracks of major dubby buisness. Loads of vocals,
drum'n'bass influences, 2 step sounds and a stunning production job results
    in a killer album.

    38. Stockhom Cyclo: Electronic Ghetto Twist (Raw Fusion)
Second release from this wicked new label. A bit nu jazz, a bit broken beat,
a bit Underground Resistance - this is where its at. Sure to be a winner
with the likes of Alex Attias, Dego and the likes.

    39. Various: Soul Searching II - Tribes Vol. 7 (Infracom)
Other than 'Verve Remixed' and 'Music & Movement' there haven't been many
killer compilations about. This one is and its loaded with treasures over 3
    slices of vinyl.

    40. Roomtone: Music Against People (Music For Speakers)
This label's output just gets better and better. Roomtone aka Jeroen Kimman
drops a much more jazz orientated release but with Sandor Caron and Aardvark
each producing a track the result is a beautiful hybrid of electronica and
    spiritual jazz.

    41. Sun Ra: Satellites Are Spinning - Zero DB & Hectic Mix (Mo Smog)
Only on CDr just now but this is blinding. The Zero DB boys do it again,
this time in collaboration with Hectic aka Gilles Peterson on his first
production job. The boy did well.

    42. Relaxo Abstracto: Inflatable Scream (Music For Speakers)
A new project featuring the collaborative efforts of Aardvark, David Caron
and Sandor Caron. Working together they come up with 3 wicked, melodic,
Detroit style broken beat numbers that will appeal to those adventurous DJ's
    out there.

This chart is sent to hundereds of press publications, magazines, labels,
DJ's producers, and promotion companies throughout the world on a weekly
