STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Finally on the streets is Jazzanova's "Guestlist" remix of MAW feat Roy
Ayers "Our Time is Coming". It's an absolute killer - one of Jazzanova's
best to date. For Trainspotters' Corner I spun it alongside Roy's 1972
classic "We Live in Brooklyn Baby". It sounds to me like Jazzanova have
chopped some of the intro and strings and worked it into their remix
alongside other Roy samples like "Running Away". I thought that hearing
these records side-by-side provided an interesting insight into their
studio approach. When I first interviewed Claas from Jazzanova a couple of
years back he said that their music is 95% samples. It certainly sounds
like they had fun with their Roy Ayers records on this one.

Those of you who knew that Paul Gamblin was from Perth may have been
surprised when he spoke on his mix for last week's show. Well, Paul was
originally from the UK before making the move down under. Since moving to
Perth, he has been rocking the airwaves for over 10 years and currently
hosts Black and Blue on quality station RTR FM (who are in radiothon at the
moment). Also, be on the look out for Paul spinning in Perth venues
like Little Creatures, Glasshouse and Jazz Rooms. If you want to receive the
Black and Blue radio playlists, email paul.gamblin@watercorporation.com.au.

Coming up this week I'll be joined in the studio by Liz Millar and Eddie
Mac, two of the heads behind the wonderful WOW house sessions which turn
one this weekend. These two are also big fans of soulful sounds beyond the
realms of house so we can look forward to some interesting selections on
    Friday.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
