    08+20-03= the final countdown!

    *cue horrible synth sounds*

    Whaddup all my peoples! The lights are back on! Tell me how nice it was to see the city in absolute darkness last Thursday night. Maybe now people will realize you don't need to be comfortable in 0 degree Celcius airconditioning.

    Soooooooooo the years have melted down into weeks, decomposed into days, and will soon become hours. Yup, the summer is almost over (boooooo! hissssssss!). Not only that, but sadly, your ever-faithful Venus will be steppin outta the T-Dot in about a week and a half to set up shop eastwards along the 401 in a little town called Montreal. How the hell did time move this fast? Man! I'm excited to go, but sad as hell to leave this fabulous city and more importantly, all the incredible people that I have the honour of calling my friends. Still got some time for the sad final goodbye, so I'm not talking about this anymore right now *sucking the tears back into my eyeballs*

    But the show goes on! Dalia will continue holding it down in fine fashion, and we still got 2 shows left together, so without further adieu:

    BEST KEPT SECRET
    w/ DJs Dalia and Venus on the hiphophousebrokebeatsoulabstractbiznizz tip
    Wednesdays 6-8 PM EST
    CHRY 105.5 FM
    phone: 416-736-5656
    web: www.yorku.ca/chry

    Too too much to tell y'all about...get out the reading glasses and curl up by the fireplace (or your window, as it's likely about 40 degrees Celcius as you read this)...as Slick Rick says: 'herrrrrrrrrrrrrre we goooooooooooooo'!

    :::TONIGHT:::

    Mad packed show in store, so packed that the CHRY studios will most likely bust at the seams. First up, we're honoured to have the Red Beet Lounge crew come through to drop some tunes and chat about the Sunday night dominance they've been enjoying in Toronto for the last few months. Comprised of General Eclectic, Tariq, and Mo'Chi, their Sunday night jams at Fressen are truly sweat-inducing, smile-inspiring, and have more than just a few people walking around giddy and bleary-eyed on Monday mornings. Bringing a decadent blend of soul, hiphop, funk, and RnB on the funked up tip, this crew KNOWS what gets people up on it! Us Best Kept gyals had the pleasure of playing there a few weeks back, and it was truly off the hook!

    Make sure you are touch down at Fressen (478 Queen St. W, east of Bathurst) each and every Sunday, but especially this Sunday (Aug 24th) for a special birthday edition of Red Beet Lounge, as Tariq is turning exactly one year older. On the decks will be General Eclectic, Tariq, Mo'chi, and special guests DJ Kalmplex and ourselves Dalia and Venus! Make sure to stick an extra sweatband in yer back pocket. $3 at the door, and goes til laaaaaaaaaate.

    Best Kept is also super excited to have none other than emcee extraordinaire Mindbender come through tonight to chat about his brand spankin soon-to-be-released rekkid entitled 'Beautiful Mutant' (www.supremebeingunit.com). After experiencing his incredible live performances, hearing him on record, and even waxing philosophic with him, you can't help be drawn in by the absolute love for life he embodies. And it seems that lots of others feel the same, snatching up his records with the quick-fast and in large numbers since dropping tunes with his crew Supreme Being Unit back in 1996. Mad busy in the studio with peoples like Dorc and Vangal, this guy's pushing hiphop's sonic boundaries and recording crazy amounts of music.

    Check him out this coming Thursday (August 21) at Dundas Square as part of the massive Style In Progress hip hop event (www.styleinprogress.ca) happening on Thurs and Fri, featuring peoples like Rhythmicru, Masia One, More or Les, Shebang!, Kamau, Rikoshay, Danimal, M-Rock, and Moonstarr, among nuff others. Mindbender's performing LIVE with Dorc at 4:30 PM, and of course check him hosting In Divine Style, the best open mic hiphop night in Toronto, every Thursday at the Hooch (815 Queen St. W, above Gypsy CoOp).

    I told you it was mad packed.
