STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

A great genre-crossing mix was had from Russ Dewbury for last week's show,
not unlike his selections at Honkytonks last Sunday night. It was good that
Russ enjoyed his visit to Australia. He now heads back to the UK for the
release of his Mitchell & Dewbury album "Rapping With the Gods" which has
apparently hit the lower reaches of the UK charts - very impressive. See you
at the Dwele gig in London, Russ! And special thanks to Trevor Parkee in
Sydney for coming through with Russ' mix when my copy seemed to disappear
    into a postal Bermuda Triangle.

We had Trainspotters' Corner with another track from Norwegian trio Ralph
Myerz & The Jack Herren Band (remember the haunting "Nikita"?). Their album
"A Special Album" is out now on Emperor Norton and features a nice cover of
Donald Byrd's "Think Twice". But everyone seems to do "Think Twice" so I
played the even better cover of the easy vocal "You Never Come Closer",
previously recorded by Sweden's Doris from the same album with the monster
funk tune "Don't". Original Gonkyburg business from 1970. And what a great
bassline, slightly reminiscent of the Beatle's "Come Together".

It's Friday the 13th tomorrow, so something's bound to go horribly wrong.
But it certainly won't be my guest Phil Broekelmann, the former Sydney-sider
how has now returned to Munich and who has provided a mix in keeping with
his own Curl Curl radio show.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
