Steph ... u recently asked about Mongo Santamaria's Sofritos album. I
never got it so cant recommend it one way or the other.
    However:
I just came across this very informative (though far from comprehensive)
    website;

    http://www.wildsscene.com/music/index.html

take it with a pinch of salt as the editorial seems fickle and favors more
exotic sound. Nevertheless, a good read .

On the subject of bangin latin beats, I've been digging my recent finds of
records featuring and or produced by Larry Harlow. He's got a really raw
and energetic sound, classic nuyorican vibes.
    specifically i've acquired these albums:
    Harlow's Harem
    Easy Tempo 2
and Andy Harlow "que suena la flauta"
By the By he's a jewish dude from NYC who got into latin music, nicknamed
El Judeo Maravilloso ... me, i'm following his footsteps ;-]

Also just picked up Willie Colon 'El Juicio' which has a song on it
    "Timbalero" that bangs.

If you havent yet checked it, i HIGHLY recommend the "ATiTeToca"
compilation from Spain which came out recently. 100% pure latin BOMBs,
    some really really dope tracks.

Also, Spanish Harlem Orchestra's 'Un Gran Dia en el Barrio' .

For some electronic beats with sabor latino, I'm feeling the work of the
Spam All Stars from Miami . fat stuff.

    paz, y glandules
    that is,
    peace & peas
