    I listen to a LOT of different music, by a LOT of different artists...
    Sometimes I can be inspired by a song.
    Most times I can't
    But when I am, I am usually in awe.
    There is one song in particular that has inspired me
    So here is my inspiration
    A simple "stream of consciousness"
    It may mean something to you. Or it may not.

    'AFRO BLEW MY MIND' by Marlon Saunders is one such song.
    Many younger artists try to catch the vibe.
    Most fail
    But that's ok, cuz at least they had the mind to try.
    Every now and then, someone catches it and rides that damn groove like a surfer riding a wave.
    I invite you all to take a quick visit to the P* Funk Review Website and see if you agree with
    me?
    The song is playing in the "blackround".

    And it's a SONG THAT TRULY DESERVES TO BE THERE ON THAT SITE.
    That site was originally created with the explicit purpose of "catching that vibe", right here
    on the internet.
    It's been around for a long time (1996) and since that time there have been many songs playing
    in the "blackround" of that web page.

    One of the things about getting older that you learn is that "certain things are just meant to
    be".
    And the song...

    I'll have a LOT to say about Marlon Saunders in the weeks and moths to come.
    For right now I just want to introduce him to you by way of this one "simple song"
    -----------------------------------------------------
    You know something, AFRO TRULY DID BLOW MY MIND
    All of you know that I am truly a child of the 1970's.

    During the 1970's I was both a teenager and a young man.
    During the 1970's I was both a high school student and a college student.
    During the 1970's I was both for the war and against the war
    During the 1970's I was both pro drugs and anti drugs
    During the 1970's I was both funk and I was soul (in fact, during the 1970's I didn't even
    know the difference)

    However for the purposes of this conversation I am not going to talk about those things.
    For right now I will simply say that...

    ::::::AFRO BLEW MY MIND::::::

    During the 1970's, the world was indeed my oyster.
    I just didn't know it back then.
    All I can do is to look back at it all and know that...

    ::::::AFRO BLEW MY MIND::::::

    There are many times today that I wish that I could explain it all
    Sometimes I feel that I can
    But in reality I can't
    It was all too deep
    It was all too awakening
    It was in the end a tragedy
    We just didn't know it then
    We thought it was the beginning of something
    Instead it turned out to be the end of something
    And today I can look back at it all and smile & cry at the same time
    Because...

    ::::::AFRO BLEW MY MIND::::::

    It was a time for me to learn
    But I also thought that I had it all figured out
    Today I sit here considering it all
    Still unable to make any sense of it
    Listening to a song
    Written by a young man
    Who is too young to have experienced it at all
    That I can't get out of my head

    And then I consider how great that simple fact is
    And it makes me smile
    It makes me know that I made a difference

    ::::::AFRO DID INDEED BLOW MY MIND::::::

    And I can sit here and know that the
    ::::::AFRO THAT BLEW MY MIND::::::

    Is still in existence
    Still blowing people's minds
    Still inspiring people to do the things that others tell them they can't do
    Still making people get FUNKY
    Still expanding people's minds

    Hopefully you will excuse my rambling?
    And even if you don't, that's cool too
    Because the sudden realization that the...

    ::::::AFRO THAT BLEW MY MIND::::::

    30 years ago
    Is still here
    It's still strong
    It still walks proud
    It still stands tall
    I feared it was lost
    It still knows that in order to move forward
    Young men and old men, still need to look back
    Because looking back is the source of knowledge
    And it's that knowledge which provides the inspiration
    To know that others have already walked in the path you want to take

    Hell, I can't begin to explain it to you
    Either you have it, or you don't
    Yes indeed...

    ::::::AFRO BLEW MY MIND::::::

    and as those of us who were there know...
    (if your mind ain't blown, you can't expand it)
