    Greetings,

Among the aural delights lined up for this evening's show are two
    noteworthy new releases:

V/A: Fantastic Freeriding 2 - The good folks at Germany's
Switchstance Recordings have given us the second installment in their
compilation series showcasing their current four-act roster. Ancient
Astronauts, Kabanjak, Deela and Protassov get three tracks apiece to
demonstrate their depth and diversity, of which there is quite a bit.
There's something for everyone here: hip-hop, nu-jazz, Middle Eastern
melodic themes, funky breaks and some slow, shimmering psychedelia.
Audio clips and some nice flash graphics are to be found at
    www.switchstance.de.

HiM: Many In High Places Are Not Well - Doug Scharin is well-known in
post-rock circles for his work with Codine, Rex and June of 44 and in
1995, he began using HiM as a front for his solo recordings. Over
time former bandmates and assorted friends came and went, but in
1999, the core of a real working group coalesced. Usually a septet
but often swelling to nine members, HiM incorporates elements of dub,
African rhythms, jazz and post-punk influences. On their current
release, no fewer than 17 musicians are credited, including guest
vocals from Mum's Kristin Anna Valtysdottir. It's a fascinating album
that genre-hops from track-to-track without losing its center and may
surprise you in much the same way I was. For more info, go to
www.bubblecore.com and check out the audio samples.

Alas, I'm on deadline for another job, but next week I'll give you
the down low on the new Tortoise and Strike Boys albums, the Dining
Rooms' Versioni Particolari remix disc and Ninja Tune's new Zen TV
    DVD collection.

    Until then, ciao for now!
    David
