That's good news about the Zero 7 album. I'm definitely looking forward to
    it.

I might still pick up the Joss Stone just to check it out. I did like the
track on the 7" we had. And there ain't THAT much neo soul/r&b around for me
to buy these days (though I haven't listened to the Amiel CD I bought last
    week yet)...

I agree that the Clara Hill CD is very nice. Very mellow and pretty. The
Alison Crockett CD has some fantastic tracks on it and hopefully will get
picked up by a big label to give it the push it deserves.

A lot of the stuff I've liked in the last couple of weeks has been VERY
jazzy: new Five Corners Quintet 10", new David Borsu on Counterpoint, and a
few others I can't recall. No CDs though so I don't get to listen to them at
    my desk...

I'm on the same page as you, Dirk. I haven't been posting much b/c there
doesn't seem to be a whole lot of back and forth. I appreciate playlists and
gig announcements - I know it's hard to keep parties going and the records
flowing in, so it doesn't bother me too much. Plus, I occasionally get
turned on to new artists, have a rough feel for who's playing what/where
    but...

I'm on another list where we recently had a "required posting." While that
was a simple "now playing" post, maybe it'd be cool to have something
similar, but with a brief description of *why* it's playing?

    so...
NP: Deyampert Shapes & Colors (Sonar Kollektiv) I went and paid $19 at
Amoeba for this one and would pay twice that - it's that good. Not as
broken/ nu jazz-y as I (for whatever reason) expected, but glorious acoustic
soul. Just beautiful songwriting, chords, guitar with some delicious vocals
that aren't some wannabe diva wailing about "taking you hiiiiigher".
Definitely one for the quiet nights at home, or the sunny spring Sundays
going for a drive with your girl/ boy.

by the same token, the new Zero 7 When It Falls (Quango/Palm) is pretty
special. Softly trippy production but the focus is well on the mood and
atmosphere, with solid guest vocals from a variety of singers (Mozez, Sophie
Barker.) I *ahem* never got around to Simple Things but will be picking up a
    copy after hearing this.

so...let's hear from some of you lurkers. Particularly those who don't post
anything other than their upcoming gigs! Speaking of which, SF heads best be
down at MikeBee's Safe on Saturday for John Beltran on the decks - let's
    show some love.

    easy,
    Peter

What bothers me is there doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion of music
along with the advertising/promotional postings. I stopped posting our
updates and such here because I didn't want my ONLY postings to be ads (even
if they may be informative ones). Is everyone just super busy? Or super
    bored?

Anyone hear the Joss Stone album? I wasn't familiar with her until we got a
7" from the UK and I really like it. I think I'm off to the store tonight to
    pick it up.

Soo is anyone interesting in setting up a forum
    dedicated to discussion and
leaving the radio shows, playlists, regional shows, newsetters in a
    seperate list???

    Peace RIch

old timers, don't we go thru this every 2 years or so? personally, i
like being able to see all of that stuff. it will also sometimes
    stimulate conversations...

Sure I remember this debate a few years back, but now it seems *everyone* is

    pushing something.
Just look back in the archive and you'll see the amount of "adversiting"
that has basicaly taken over this list
