STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne (GMT +11)
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au (see below for global times)

    Hello all

Urbs gave us a party mix for last week's show. The album 'Toujours le Meme Film' is out now on G-Stone, and takes a decidedly more loungy path, with great dare-I-say cinematic retro tunes like 'Operation W'.

We also had the happy return of the Trainspotters' Corner segment last week, this time focussing on the early days of house music. Get out your pens and paper, here's what you need to know:
    - former Stylin guest Ture Sjoberg aka Beatfanatic aka Beatconductor aka Jazzconductor has a new alias, Warehouse Choir
    - the Warehouse was a club in Chicago in the 80s at which Frankie Knuckles DJed a style of music that would come to be known as 'house', taking its name from the club
    - Marshall Jefferson's 'Move Your Body', recorded in 1986 for the seminal Trax label, was a Warehouse anthem with its lyrics dedicated to house music, and its subtitle 'the House Music Anthem'
    - the B-side of the new Warehouse Choir 12" is called 'Move Your Body' and uses the vocal hook from Marshall Jefferson's tune
    - the string part of the original 'Move Your Body' was sampled in 1988 by Todd Terry under his Royal House guise, for the equally anthemic 'Can U Party?'
    - 'Can U Party?' was the backing for the Jungle Brothers 'I'll House You' which has recently been remixed by Kenny Dope
    - Kenny Dope was part of a DJ team called Masters at Work, and lent the name to Todd Terry for a release in 1987
    - Todd Terry introduced Kenny to Louie Vega, and Kenny and Louie became what Masters at Work is today
    - Louie Vega has also recently reworked a house classic, teaming up with Mr V to redo 'Let's Get Jazzy', based on the jackin Blaze remix of KC Flightt tune remixed from 1987

Tomorrow, tune in for a visit from Melbourne producer and DJ Christian Vance, a member of Phunk de Sonique, who have been threatening to release some music for a while but in the meantime have been playing live sets alongside the likes of Derrick May and Carl Craig.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
