Believe it! The Stylin newsletter is back. After a hefty hiatus, I'm back from the email dead with no less than 13 playlists for the Stylin of 2006. Many people have asked whether I've dropped them off or 'blacklisted' them from the Stylin mailing list. Well, only in the sense that everyone has been blacklisted for the last little while!
Lots of happenings in the first quarter of 06, like gigs and radio shows with the likes of Recloose, Russ Jones & Future World Funk, Benji B, Common, Man About Town, Troy J Been, Jamie Bennett, Chikashi Nishiwaki, Karsten John, 2Siders and Solaa. Also finished some work on the Melbourne Fashion Festival and a new remix for Far Out.
And plenty of goodness coming up too. Like Open Sesame hosting the Bamboos 'Step it Up' album launch tonight (Thursday before Good Friday) at Honkytonks, with the band playing with a rare extended and super-heavy 9-piece lineup. Back in July 2001, on the first Stylin show I played an unreleased demo from what would become the Bamboos first 45. Since then, the Melbourne funk outfit has won fans around the world including the likes of Kenny Dope, Keb Darge, Quantic, Mr Scruff and a bunch of eBayers who pay crazy prices for the early 45s. Hopefully the guys hit the record button in their rehearsals for tomorrow's gig, so we should have some special versions of their tunes to spin on Stylin very soon.
