The Beastie Boys have a song named after him called "Groove Holmes" on
their "Check Your Head" album. Money Mark plays the organs on this
track - reminds me of Fat Albert. A lot of Beastie Boys instrumental tracks
on "Check Your Head" and "Ill Communication" have also received little
attention. My favourites are "Something's got to give" (turn the base up on
your EQ for the full effect) and "Namaste" (pure mellow) on Check your head, and
"Ricky's Theme" (organs, bass, etc. grooving to a chill out rhythm) and
"Eugene's Lament" (violin solo on top of a slow but intense drum beat) on their
"Ill Communication" album. I recommend checking some of their instrumentals out
if you haven't had the chance yet - it's totally different from their
"fight for your right to party/whachuwant/sabotage" style tracks that catch the
attention of commercial radio.
