I nearly passed out when I checked out what's coming to the Toronto Jazz
Festival. The mega-legendary Abdullah Ibrahim (aka Dollar Brand) is
playing Thursday June 29 at Harbourfront(?).
Ibrahim (who I thought had died!) is an amazing jazz pianist from South
Africa who plays groovin' jazz stylings infused with the infectious Soweto
rhythm popularized here on the Paul Simon disc Graceland. Anyway, if you
want to hear the real thing, check out Abdullah.
Then on Saturday and Sunday, (actually, it might be Friday and Saturday),
DEFUNKT (you read it right) is playing at a Toronto club (I know I
don't have to explain to any of you who or what Defunkt is).
The following Friday, Groove Collective and the Philosopher Kings are on a
double bill at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Keep fonkin'. I'll be.
