I first saw the video for Soul Coughing's "Screenwriter's Blues" on
Muchmusic's City Limits one night many weeks ago and was immediately intrigued.

Nope, these guys can't even be considered "acid jazz" just plain different.
I just interviewed them for Streetsound (hey, whaddup Paul!) and they in
fact have some very low opinions of what "acid jazz" has turned into. They
sort of call it "sugar-free jazz" like one their songs.

But I certainly like their usage of musical styles including Carl Stalling's
music from the Merrie Melodies cartoons.

And M. Dougherty doesn't call himself a rapper, poet or singer singularly.
He prefers hopping between styles just to piss people like us off.
