Corduroy are definitely acid jazz, but maybe not in the way that a lot of
people would think. There first album (Dad Man Cat) was dangerously funky -
fast and frantic, driving bass, frenetic wah-wah, screaming B-3, their
second (High Havoc) moved into what some would call cheese (I don't like
the term) - it was the soundtrack to a film that never existed and was
extremely good. By their third album (out of here) they had moved well
into the more moddy/West Coast/Steely Dan kind of sound. Whilst the earlier
stuff is more popular with the crowds, the later sound is what they are
happier with, and _I_ think it is much cleverer that some of the earlier
albums. It's a great album - it might take a little while to grow on you
(then again, it might not). I would heavily recommend all the albums -
the first two (particularly No.1) might be easier to get into, but you'll
get more out of the last one.

Their new album is looking good, and I think will do well - released on
their own label, as they're no longer signed to Acid Jazz, and out around
New Year kind of time (UK)
