Aaaaaaahhhh, Rob, I happen to be from that little island! Yes,
Zakynthos is beautiful and it has its fair share of tacky bars
and discos, but there are a few gems out there, since there are
a couple of people that DJ at clubs or radio stations during the
winter in Athens, but in the summer they move their act to Zakynthos.
Did you go down to Mavratzi beach? The music down there is super
dread funk soul. There are two guys down there usually, a black
rasta dude and a white guy with a P-Funk shirt. Acquaintances...
Also, the Calypso bar in Argasi will play anything from Jocelyn
Brown to Michael Watford. Plus, that open-air club at the end of
Argasi (I forget the name) plays nice Tribal and Strictly records
some nights - dirty garage and soulful house. ;) Close friends...
The Sokrates plays some acid jazz and Barrage just has a very cool
atmosphere. Is the place you are talking about the one with that
big white wall that overlooks the beachfront?

If you're a DJ and want to spend your summer on a beautiful
Meditteranean island (regardless the country), get down there around
early May and it is likely that you will find a job to pay for your
stay. If you don't find a job, you'll only lose two great weeks -
If you do, you might end up staying for the whole summer. Just have
a definite idea of where you'll be in the fall cause these jobs end
in September/October. Many English people work there summer after
summer - I've met some Swedes, Italians, and other Europeans that
are doing it too.
Jazz On,
Alexees.

ps1 There I go off talking about Greece again... Sorry!
ps2 The above club info might change from summer to summer.
