Groovy Shit

OK, so some fundamentalists would definately not consider the stuff
I'm listening too as acid-jazz, but man I think it's hot.

One of the latest in Instinct Records *This Is Acid Jazz* series is
called "Bossa Brava". (ex 313) It's very jazzy, very latin, and yet,
there's a big tinge of acid in there. Bands include Mondo Grosso,
Rad, No Se, Sergio Bore, Reminiscence Quartet, Bahia Sunsets, Exodus
Quartet (unfortunately ths one is on other compilations, but it's a
great song), Vibrazione Productions, Night Trains (from their album),
and Paolo Achenza Trio. I'm listening to the No Se track right now,
and it's hard to keep sitting, my ass wants to shake all over the
place :)

Another favorite of mine from the above is reminiscence quartet. I
have their french import "ritmo brasileiro" on Yellow Productions
(YPCD 006 A) and man it blows me away. I think Instinct also came out
with a release, I don't know if it's the same disk repackaged for US
consumption, or if it's something different. If anyone has it, let me
know what's on it so I can comepare.

I also just picked up Moonshine Records "The Acid Jazz Text-Part 3"
It's got some good tracks on it, but I'm particularly miffed by IZIT.
They haven't been the same since their hot tracks "Stories" and "Blow
White and the Seven Chords" on two old compilations.

For more conventional AJ-Hip Hop, check out The JazzHole on Bluemoon
Recordings. It's mostly rap reggae/rap mixed with jazz. Also,
Jazzmatazz Vol 2 (hosted by Guru) has some good stuff on it. It was
in my disk changer for about 2 weeks non-stop, so I guess I liked it.

Can anyone tell me if they've heard anything from a band called "The
Stone Cold Boners"? They had a track on Scotti Bros. Records' "Acid
Jazz Collection, Vol 1 or 2) but I've not heard anything from them
since.

Also, does anyone know of any AJ-Salsa fusions?

Peace,
Gyan
