Hello Joe:

You'll get better answers to your sampling questions at The Copyright Website...
http://www.benedict.com/

This Friday, you don't even have to leave your house (in the SF Sunset
District) to hear some of the flavors we like to discuss here. Every
Friday night, between 9pm and midnight on KUSF 90.3 FM, you have a chance
to hear some nice selections from Andrew and Caspar, who are local DJs
and editors of "On The One" jazzmopolitan magazine. Here's what the KUSF
program listing (http://www.usfca.edu/usf/kusf/Friday.html) says...

"Playing new releases, exclusives, club classics and collectibles, the
Friday Night Session will keep you connected to the global resurgence of
jazz. Listen for giveaways, visits from top musicians, producers and DJs
- and the latest information on the local jazz scene."

You've managed to ignite some large flames on this list, and seem to
delight in doing so. You mention that you've been kicked off other lists,
you've been this, you've been that. Great. I hope we never have to "kick
off" anyone from this list. As a longtime subscriber, I've observed that
everyone here is open to critical dialogs. There are no specific
boundaries that define the musical realms we explore here. Don't
underestimate the people on this list. Disagreements are not that
uncommon. Not everyone likes the same music. Not everyone likes the same
bands. Not everyone is a new jack. Yet everyone gives and expects
respect. You seem to give none and expect none. Our purpose to subscribe
is for discussion. What is your purpose here? If it is simply to bait, I
will be the first to ask you to leave the list.

I don't need to hear your credentials. It's obvious you have something to
say, and I believe you have much to contribute. The condescending
attitude that laces every message is what incenses people. Drop that and
I know we can all learn from each other. Example: you play and instruct
bass - drop more knowledge on who you think are great bass players,
popular or obscure.

Four or five days lurking on the list can't possibly give a decent
impression of the diverse musics we listen to. You've missed the lengthy
(and, I believe, ultimately inconclusive) debate about what "acid jazz"
music really is. For now, maybe you can accept the notion that we like a
wide variety of music that (sometimes inexplicably) relates to soul and
jazz (and please don't ask for a semantics lesson).

Actually to quote your own message "greatnes, history in the making..." -
there IS greatness and history in the making. Many people we discuss (and
many subscribers too) are busting their asses - creative heads and
business heads making waves that will resonate for a long long time -
guaranteed!

You've said quite a bit, loaded the mail, and got fired upon. Now can I
welcome you to the Acid Jazz Mailing List?

I apologize for so much "we" and "you" in the preceding message. The
intent is not to set up any opposition but just to help explain myself.
