I can't really remember the first jazz album I bought, I had the misfortune
:-) of having my Dad be a big jazz listener, from Brubeck to Modern Jazz
Quartet (Silver's Song for my Father is one of his favorites), the local
NPR/jazz station is a fixture in my family's cars. But, the jazz album I
first got that sticks in my mind is the World Saxophone Quartet's "WSQ
Plays Ellington." I was a little far out for me but I have grown to love
it and find the death of Julius Hemphill, another great jazz
player/composer/arrainger, to add to God's jammin' band.
