Hey Jude,

I would suggest that you pick up a copy of New Times when you get to Miami.
It's a free weekly entertainment newspaper that lists all the happening events.
You can pick up New Times on almost any corner in Miami where there's newspaper
vending machines.

There is a hip, trendy club scene in South Beach, but I'm not very knowledgable
about it anymore. Last time I looked in New Times, it seemed to me like there
are DJ's spinning acid jazz at different clubs 3 or 4 nights out of the week.
One of the first times in my life hearing acid jazz was over at Bash, a club on
Washington Ave. which is owned by actor Sean Penn and vocalist Mick Hucknall of
Simply Red.

There are not a whole lot of good record stores in Miami, either. My favorite
would be Blue Note Records on 163rd St., next to the 163rd St. Mall in North
Miami. They have lots of straight ahead jazz (i.e. rare groove) on vinyl, and
have a modest AJ selection. When in South Beach, check out Yesterday & Today
records, over on Alton Rd. This is probably the best DJ record store in Miami.
You may also want to check out Uncle Sam's Records, which is also in SoBe, on
Washington Ave.

On another note, you may want to check out the topless beach on 10th Street &
Ocean Drive. It's not every day that you get to see beautiful female models
bare their breasts for free in public.

In summary, use New Times as your guide to Miami & you'll be glad you did. And
please, try not to get robbed or killed while you're here: We have a bad enough
reputation already.

What's up?!

I'm heading to Fort Lauderdale/Miami at the end of the month.

Any suggestions on the hot acidjazz/soul clubs to check out? Or good
record shops?

Thanks,

Jude
