Talk about saving bandwidth here... :-)
BTW- Since my email isn't obvious- it's me, DJ Billingsley (aka Greg
Beuthin). And don't reply to this with "Hi Greg" as your sole message. ;-(

Finally saw Greyboy live at the Elbo Room Sunday night. Wicked ass
music, man. I'm a percussion fan, and the drummer plays some wicked riffs.
I haven't heard music that tight or funky live in AGES. I'd like to add my
vote to the hundreds who have said amen to Greyboy Allstars. Two things
tho: The sax player has some MEAN pecs... ;-) But why... why does he
where a pager on stage? (I was the tall guy in black baggys and the KTUH
t-shirt...)

A big YES to Last Poets and Gil Scott-Heron. GSH gets bigger props in my
book tho because I preferred his take vis-a-vis women over early Last
Poets. Speaking of rap- Does the (new) Fugees sound even better than the
first one? But what's the Honolulu connection?

For those of you in SF- 1) Don't say "San Fran" ;-), 2) *Do* check out DJ
Kevin at Dalvas on Tue and Thur nites, *Do* check out Soulvation at Elbo
Room Thur nites, and definitely check out Up&Down Club- upstairs *or*
dowstairs. Those are the main ones I can vouch for first-hand. Also,
for more international favor, Nickie's on Haight on Weds(?), and El Rio
on Mission on Fridays. Despite what was said earlier- although these
mellower a-jazz clubs are less "bridge and tunnel crowd" and less meat
markets than the big dance shops (DV8, 1015 Folsom, etc), they still are
places to see and be scene. I always feel a bit "unhip" when I go to
Elbo Room- but that could just be me. :-) (The exception is El Rio-
advertised as "Your Dive").

I wish I could connect with all the SF scenesters out there- the 330
Ritch and Cafe Du Nord people, Paul Lopes, etc, plus all the regular joes
and janes like me. But if you ever see a guy with a Honolulu t-shirt, and
he's about 6'3, looks like he might be part-Chinese (but isn't)- please
don't be shy and say "The Smoking Goat Experience" and I'll *lose* it, I
promise. :-) Or just say "Are you the guy...."

Shirts- Still got plenty left. If the checks clear, then I'm sold out of
XXL, so only XL left. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check
out the Web site, or mail me. But a warning- I don't get to this list
very often- so be patient. :-) DO NOT POST TO THE LIST ABOUT THE
T-SHIRTS!!! You *will* be flamed by people who 1) already have their
t-shirts and don't want to hear any more about it, or by 2) people who
are sick and tired of hearing about it anyway.

Sorry I don't have any great musical insights. But if you wwant to know,
the last 3 CDs I bought were Skunk Anansie (punk/ heavy metal- rad rad
rad... :-)), Everything But the Girl (Yes, with the club mix of
"Missing"- I *had* to have that), and finally got around to Blackalicious
(funny as all HELL).
