Kevin England asked, regarding New Music Seminar: "In Florida? Anyone know
anything about it?"

Well, NMS is usually held in New York and is supposedly not happening anymore
due to financial dificulties. You are probably talking about the Global Groove
Summit which is happening here in Orlando, Florida on May 24th- May 26th. It is
being coordinated by Smash Hunter at New Breed Records and Gerard Mitchell of
Eighth Dimension Records.

I don't want to repeat myself on this event too often, but it will be a great
happening and possibly a major groove-oriented event. There are many major
worldwide acts on the verge of being confirmed for the Summit as well as more
than a few DJ showcases with some of the biggest names in the biz. There will
also be seminars to educate and pool info regarding this music we are involved
in. So far, some of the seminar topics are "Club Life" (pormoters and DJs dicuss
the club industry), "Rare Grooves" (Label owners, store owners, and distributors
discuss distribution problems), "Vinyl Junkies Unite" (collecting wax), "Jazz
Net Jazz" (internet AJ), "Up In The Air" (radio), and "Acid Jazz is Dead?"
(which is described as 'What really contributes to what people perceive as acid
jazz and who's to blame?'). Other 'urban alternative' musics will be represented
as well, such as hip hop and jungle.

It takes place in the various clubs and coffeehouses of downtown Orlando. It is
pretty economical (a lot cheaper than NMS, that's for sure) and we can hook one
up with cheap plane flights and accomodations. I won't bore you with the details
here... just e-mail me directly for more information or fax/write Smash or
Gerard at the places listed below.

Also, industry people who would like to be represented or involved should
certainly get in touch as we are still in need of live acts, DJs, and
knowlegable panelists/speakers for the seminars. Even if you cannot attend, we
can make sure that your organization is represented.

As I have been unofficially become the 'internet representative' for the Summit,
I'll keep everyone informed as to acts and DJs confirmed for the event as well
as other developments.

PEACE all,

Michael Donaldson
