Hi fellow listies,

Is there anyone still on this list? Its gone real quite!!!

Last weekend was Jazz on the Waterfront. The annual free Jazz
festival put on in Leeds (UK).

This year we had as headliners: Fri - Raw Stylus, Courtney Pine
Sat - Snowboy and the Latin section, Sun - George Melly.

I thought Courtney was shit hot, it was the first time I've seen
him play. Quite a good Jazz Hip Hop set, with a great MC and DJ.
He seems fucking young, couldn't be more than 30!
Raw Stylus good, solid as ever. I think if you want to
describe middle of the road acid jazz to someone, this band is it.
(I still think they lack imagination, no ground breaking inovative
stuff here).

The supporting band for Snowboy was shit hot. I don't know their
name. But they are from Manchester. They are a 8 piece Samba
percussion outfit , Surdus,quikas,congas,hepaniques,
panderiero, snare drums, whistles etc... But with a kicking Rapper. Never seen anyone rap over
samba. Played most of the samba rythems I know, Samba hip hop,
Samba Reggie trad stuff...

Snowboy was great. They played mostly stuff from the pitbull latin
album. I see why they called it that now. Given a preference I
would go for his older stuff, more rootsy! Anyway, at least he
finished with the good ol' favourite,... Flintstones!

All in all a good festival, all FREE courtesy of Leeds City Council.
(Even if the beer prices were extortionate)
