Trainspotters: I stood beside Omar at "That's how It is" at Bar Rhumba
(London) last week... How about that? ;-)
The club was packed, as usual. The DJs played a lot more
drum'n'bass, hard beat and rap than usual. It was perfect for my taste,
but my friends would definitely like to have not so abstract beats. I
kind of agree - I mean, not even one jazzy tune got played...

Some recent findings:

Issue 3 of the magazine Jazid is out. Included is an EP with 4 tracks:
1. Up, bustle and out - Bicycles, flutes & you
2. Coldcut - Sexy bits
3. Funky porcini - Venus
4. DJ Food - Paul's skank
Don't but the mag for the EP though - it's a low-fi 7" which is a bit
annoying. The text however is top quality; Red Snapper, Alex Reece,
Ninja Tune and Dr. Robert (who I saw in concert in London. He's
obviously in some kind of Elvis-state right now, with greasy hair and
ugly Hawaii clothes and that stuff. Weird.) are featured.

Suite espagnole vol.3 (Blue Interactions Inc. PCD-5704)
Suite espagnole vol.4 (Blue Interactions Inc. PCD-5705)
Two 1995 albums apparently, but they didn't reach europe until
now... This is a compilation made by Raphael Sebbag (from U.F.O.) and
Izuru Utsumi, and features only dance-floor latin, salsa, samba,
etc. Need I say more? A must have I think.
The albums are (hopefully) available at Mr. Bongo's in London. 22
pounds for the CD, 35 for vinyl! If anyone has got vol. 1 or 2 and
would like to sell them, e-mail me...

Monday Michiru - Jazz brat (Verve/Forecast)
I've said it earlier: Michiru's excellent voice mixed with Krush's
dope scratches and some cool bossa beats is absolutely perfect for the
summer. This is one of my favourite albums so far this year!

Explorations into dancefloor jazz vol.3 (Ubiquity URCD013)
A very strong compilation from the Ubiquity team. The highlight is
Count Basic - Strange life with dub (kruder & dorfmeister remix) -
totally awesome! Great vocals from Valerie Etienne (of Galliano fame)
and a nice dub mix by K&D. Nine tracks in total:
1. Count Basic - Strange life with dub (K&D)
2. Hooklan minds - Freshmess (red snapper mix)
3. Soul bossa trio - Sally
4. Rollercone - Rester eveille
5. Angel - Step into the light
6. Tosca - Chocolate Elvis
7. Negrocan - Aquela esquina (snowboy remix)
8. Ape - Fallen
9. Silent majority - Still water (horny mix)

Fat Bags Magilacutty and the Hydroponic funk - "Live" (Dank Planet
Records DPR 8 25001-2)
Strictly improvised music (how do they do it?) in the free form of
jazz. First, I was a bit in doubt about the idea of not rehersing, but
after a few spins I was convinced that this was just like the sleeve
note says: ...spontaneous combustion, chaos through unity.
