I have a recommendation of my own which I have just been sent from Media
Village : Samual Purdy "Whatever I Do". It's great and just what's
needed for summertime cool vibes. They describe it as laid-back jazz
funk, but it is a much brighter happier sound than traditional funk
sounds - well worth checking out (only on 7" so far). The band (from
Brighton) has recorded an album for release later in the year and
includes guests such as Andrew Levy (BNH), Elliot Randell (Steely
Dan/The Doobie Bros.) and Elliot Scheiner (Frank Sinatra, The Eagles,
Steely Dan). The music has definately got strong Steely Dan
influences, but is more up-beat. They're touring in July, but I don't
know details. Incidently, what do people on the list reckon to the
Doobie Bros.? My brother is into them, but I've never really got to
listen to much of their stuff.
