For those of you who will be in Atlanta next week, the FunkJazz Kafe (which
is an event, not a place) will be taking place July 4, 5, & 6 as a part of the
National Black Arts Festival. It starts at 10pm every night at the Atlanta
Stage Works (99 Krog Street).

This time around the special guests are
Caron Wheeler, Sonja Marie, Laurnae (of Loose Ends), Toshi Kubota, and other
surprise guests as always. THE surprise guest at the last one was Corey Glover.
He was fantastic. When a surprise guest drops by, the house band, The Chronicle, jams with them and its all improvisational. In the past other surprise guests
have been The Goodie Mob, Me'Shell Ndgeocello, Dionne Farris, Joi, The Brides
of Funkenstein and the list goes on. It is a possibility that N'Dea Davenport
may perform.

There will also be a straight jazz band called Naked Jazz and alwasy a ton
of vendors for food and the like. Tower Records and Vibe will have booths.
There's normally two DJs, one who spins old school soul and rap and the other
ragga reggae. There is art for sale and promotional CDs and tapes given away.

I've been the last two times and I haven't left until 3 or 4 in the morning and
the party is still going on very strong. Like I said, it's an event.

You can call 404-894-FUNK for more info. No, I don't make any money by telling
you all. It's just that we don't really have an acid jazz scene in Atlanta
and this is as close as you get.
