studio news
--------------------------------------

Whew.. things have been busy.

A quick summary : Producing/editing a bunch of adverts for Jamaica in
support of the new Michael Rose (*) album plus planning the initial stages
of remixing his work into a drum 'n bass stylee; Kinder Atom producing
several deep house remixes for several local (Toronto) artists, finishing a
number of our own tracks, mastering several more tracks, pouring through all
sorts of submissions for upcoming compilations and doing a pile of other
things (like trying to sort out an oddball SCSI configuration error).

* Rose is the reggae star who was the first to bring a Grammy award to his
homeland & having plenty o'involvement with noted and highly influential
Island Recording artists, Black Uhuru.

Having finally stumbled on several new tricks with one of our sequencers,
[Logic Audio - Macintosh], Kevin has been whirling out a bunch of smooth
drum 'n bass/jungle material. It's scary what can be found spending an
afternoon reading the manual eh Kev ? Between keeping you folks informed,
I've been sampling a million new beats, sorting out why one of my sampler's
hard drives refuses to work and getting this cool MIDI mixer automation
system operational.

Gerald finally finished chopping a commercial edit of 'Skiddle', a rather
funky electro track featuring Pete Jarvis on vocals. Jarvis has been
hanging around here at nice+smooth studios a lot, providing tons of vocal
material and percussion bits for us to sample & manipulate. Just in case
you don't know who Pete Jarvis is, he can be seen dancing around in a giant
cube in a video for Canadian "dance" sensation, BKS.

If you're a fan of Dead Voices on Air, you'll be pleased to hear about a
Kinder Atom vs. DVOA release coming to a store shelf near you this January
on Martin Atkin's label, Invisible Records. The magical collaboration
between Kinder Atom, Mark Spybey and new-DVOA member Sheldon Drake (one of
New York City's hottest illbient Djs) was recorded in our old space last
February.

Digital Poodle have been recording several new tracks for their new, yet
untitled album...the tracks are phonky, heavy and beat intensive -- most of
which still need plenty of vocal additions and treatments. A Digital Poodle
EP (Combat) on Cleopatra should be out soon. More information closer to launch.

Oh, watch this space for news stemming from the recent Meat Beat
Manifesto/Alx Patterson/Freaky Shakra show here in Toronto.

new releases
--------------------------------------

Several new releases have come into the studio of note :

Acid Genetiks

An international re-release of the 1995 acid knob twiddler release Elektro
Genetiks . Compiled by our own Heiki Sillaste of Digital Poodle fame, Acid
Genetiks features remixed tracks from the original domestic release, as well
as several new bonus beats. Tracks from Kinder Atom, Lazer Caps, Mouth 392
and others grace this disc -- all of which were recorded in the past couple
of years at various local studio locations. Check with your retailer that
carries Hypnotic/Cleopatra releases (distributed internationally through
Caroline Records) or order a copy from us for $12 Canadian, post-paid.

Hypnotic Sounds

A brand new compilation featuring various Hypnotic Records acts ranging from
Future Sound of London, Juno Reactor, System 7 and of course, Kinder Atom.
One look at the cover almost makes you want to take a listen -- complete
with a trippy animation when you move the jewel case around. Again check
with your retailer for availability or order it through us for $12 Canadian,
post-paid.

Watershell - The Initial Scrolls EP

This 12" features new material from Watershell and the Incarnate kids.
(ie. Legion of Green Men). Guests with Ru, Lex and Jason Irwin include
local dj heroes Jarrko and Sugar Daddy Moth. This Post Contemporary disc is
available now wherever cool tunes can be found or by contacting P.O. Box
62010, Burlington, Ontario, L7R 4K2, Canada.

Shouts
--------------------------------------

A special thanks and shout out to the folks at Energy 108 radio (the largest
dance music station in Canada if not North America) who spent 30 minutes of
their Streetbeat program several weeks ago devoted to finding out what we
here at nice+smooth audio are up to. Also thanks to Scot Turner & Pam
Blair at 108 for keeping the masses informed with our Trip Into Dub
compilation. Hope you've recovered from that nutty tunnel audio, Pam.

Also a hello to the individuals that emailed us from Zambia and Latvia...
thanks for the positive words and vibe.
