you acid-jazz heads and trip-hop fanatics will appreciate this

just really got into Quango Sport on Island/Quango--i'm not sure it's been
released yet
it features cool breeze, cloud nine, doc scott, tricky, alex reece, aqua sky,
kid loops, adam f., jmj & richie, nobukazu takemura featuring dee c lee

let me just say that jungle, although i never really gave it a fair chance
(except thorugh the drumming genius of marque gilmore, former drummer for
Women In Love), conjures up the tribal sounds of the Africas--that has planted
itself in calypso and the music of Haiti and Suriname
listening to this CD i get the feel of all those hand clap and stomping games
i played as a kid--this beat of jungle, although electronic, reeks with the
flavor of cheerleading and greek fraternal and sorrorital stepping
i don't see myself dancing to it, but it serves as listening pleasure
definitely
this is what Bam tried to accomplish with electro funk and Depeche Mode with
techno rock
AFKAP even had elements of it in "Something in the water does not compute" and
Bjork in the Sugarcubes days, there are also elements of this contained within
Miami Bass, especially in the sounds of the newcomers Quad City DJ's with
their "C'mon N' Ride It (The Train)"
i am really digging this CD

the press release says: "Quango Sport is a dance compilation (only if you're
on some acid or something)that explores the ever evolving world of new
breakbeat science. this is the first in a series of drum & bass/jungle
compilations from Quango and features tracks from Goldie's Metalheadz label,
Moving Shadow Records and the Dorado Stable. ... More than just a drum and
bass compilation, Quango Sport explores tha many facets of progressive dance
music by including tracks that incorporate elements of jazz, hip hop, soul,
house, techno and even punk rock."
