i bought a sony for about $200.

belt drive (you wont get shaft drive til about 500).. make sure the swing
arm is heavy and durable. i also wanted a model with pitch control so i
could play a bit with the speed. if that's not important than you can
knock 50 off or so..

just make sure your turntable looks durable. if you are interested in
saving cash you might want to keep your eyes open at garage sales, sure
there's lots of tables out there people aren't using anymore..
