Oh yes it is about snobbery. Of course, no one would ever admit to being
a
snob, right? I just get a bad vibe
when people get all gung-ho about wanting to keep a particular style of
music "underground" and not letting
'The Masses' get a taste of it. Whenever that happens, you have the
"underground" types look down on "The Masses" and figuratively say,
"Nyah,
nyah, I like better music than you do!" And I think that's just dead
wrong.

I felt i had to respond to this because i sense a little mockery here.
I'm sure there are people who take an elitist attitude with the music
they listen to and I agree that that's wrong, but there is a legitamate
frustration with commercialism and the desire to keep things strictly
underground. It comes from (not necessarily acid jazz, any thing...)
seeing unknown bands/artists who are amazing at what they do go by the
wayside and finding out Vanilla Ice owns six Ferraris. It comes from
seeing the bands you love start to make money and therefore start to
make compromises. It comes from accidentally tuning onto the music
awards... ;) It might not be a very productive way of thinking (probably
more emotional) but definitely legitamate.

It has nothing to do with not wanting anyone to hear it or liking music
"better", it has to do with the obious fact that money has a negative
effect on music. The "keep the music in your head" comment (funny crack
by the way) comes off as incredibly ignorant. Bro, not everybody that
hates mainstream music on a whole has an "i'm cooler" attitude and wants
to keep the music to themselves. I'm a dj and by nature want to
spread/force the music i love on everyone i possibly can. But I also
know if i started making the big bucks there would be a certain amount
of temptation to adapt what songs i play.

I don't feel that money and large audiences are comletely evil and i can
see the desire to express yourself but hey, you do it your way, and
those of us you call "underground" will do it another. More power to you
