just read the news in the l.a. weakly that tony williams died last month.
i'm
really surprised no-one i know has mentioned it. does anyone know the cause
of
death? for those who don't know, tony williams was one of the milestones in
jazz drumming--he joined miles davis' band in his teens (16 or 17, i forget),
had one of the 1st fusion bands (the tony williams lifetime's 1st album was
"emergency" w/john mclaughlin on guitar & larry young on organ--1967 i
think),
and helped liberate the drums from being the main timekeeper in a combo
setting.
