RE: Beastie Boys

Having been a long-time punk/HC fan (of course S.F.H.C. rules, man :-) ), this
is what I remember...

They released one EP called "Pollywog Stew" in 1984 or 5 or something. Back
then, they were known as more of an "art-core" band for some reason, I always
thought they were really sloppy, maybe that's why. Anyway, this EP has been
reissued before by Ax/ction Records out of Massachusetts (who still owe me
money through a distribution deal but that's another story...). I think it has
been rereleased on some other record. From that time, they released their
first hip-hop 12" (forget the name already), toured with Madonna, etc......

Anyway, if I say I don't care for their punk stuff it's because it doesn't have
that little something that would have made them great. For reference, there
were a lot of great New York (and DC) hardcore bands around and a little after
that time...Cause for Alarm, Bad Brains, S.O.A., Minor Threat, etc.

They should keep their speed demon numbers to a minimum because as a
hardcore band they're pretty much on the suck side. I don't know why
they felt they had to remind people of how bad they were. Anyway, real
quick question (not relevant to the list)... can anyone put thier
hardcore days in context for me? I'm not sure where they appear on the
time-line of the Lower-East Side hardcore scene. I'm sure it was before
86'...
